Instrumental Music Rap Up

Congratulations to all the instrumental music students, staff and families on reaching the end of what we consider to be a very successful year in the program.   2022 brought many highlights and there is much for us to be proud of including a ‘GOLD’ shield (our first ever) at this year’s Victoria Schools Music Festival which was won by our Symphonic Band, our inclusion into the ANZAC Day parade in Ringwood, our smooth transition back to on site learning and our many ‘in school’ performances throughout the year.

The way that students support each other in the soiree’s and concerts is such an encouraging sight and its one of the things which make our program such a positive aspect of our school.

My sincere thanks to the music staff who put in so much of their personal time and care this year. Last week we hosted what turned out to be such a beautiful afternoon/evening of music for the Instrumental Music cohort. A celebration and a heart-warming finale to what has been a terrific year for the music team. We thank you all for the hard work, the commitment to your music education and to all the families for their ongoing support!! Hopefully we will continue to grow and flourish in 2023.  We thank all staff who have contributed to supporting students in their music education. An extra thank you to Dion Beauglehall for his continued support in all things technical,  Donald Hew for his wonderful accompanist work on the piano for the Choir and the Junior Strings a big thanks to Shirley, Sueand the rest of the Canteen team for all their support during the sausage sizzles and events. Josh and Eugene for their wonderful work in keeping the Music Centre clean and tidy for us all. Andrea and the General Office team for all of their administrative support.  We couldn’t do it without you all!

This year we say best wishes and farewell to our longest serving music teacher Mr. Rob Gaston (Guitar/Bass) who is retiring after over 30 years of service. We also farewell Ms. Evelyn Wang (Violin/Viola) who put in some terrific work with our students this year. We wish them both all the best in their future endeavours.    In 2023 we welcome our newest members of the team Mr. Ben Delves (Guitar/Bass) and Ms. Tanya Bradley (Violin/Viola) who, along with the return of Ms. Sally Barkla (Brass) will add so much to our already strong and dedicated team.

MUSIC SUPPORT GROUP

While the Music Support Group has not been meeting this year, I would like to take this opportunity to invite and welcome instrumental music parents who may wish to volunteer some of their time throughout the year to assist in the music program events and fundraisers.  Being part of the Music Support Group provides a link to the school community and gives parents the opportunity to participate in their children’s education. Plus, it can be loads of fun!!

Please consider joining up. For more information, please contact me in the Music Office on 8872 6369.

Most re-enrolments for 2022 should have been received by now. We are encouraging all parents of students who wish to re-enrol, to do so via Compass as soon as possible. There is an option for a payment plan which will automate your payments for the program. Please note, there is no payment required until January 30th, 2023  but we do need parental consent via Compass for us to process your child’s re-enrolment.   If you are new to the program and/or are interested in joining us, please contact the Music Office,  it is still not too late for students still making up their minds, but the sooner the better as teachers are currently in the process of sorting out groups for next year, please contact me for further information.

2023 will bring many new and exciting changes to the instrumental music program at Vermont SC.   I wish everyone the very best Holiday break!  Stay safe and enjoy

Best wishes,
