Australian All Schools Track & Field Championships

Big congratulations to Stephy O of Year 7 who competed at the Australian All Schools Track & Field Championships in the U14G high jump event. Steph placed 11th in the country – a sensational achievement, and a testament to her hard work out on the training track. Well done on your first national level competition, here’s to many more in years to come.

Year 8 Boys/Mixed Baseball State Finals

After many training sessions and plenty of anticipation, our Year 8 Baseball team competed in the State Finals at Cheltenham Baseball Club on Tuesday the 29th of November.

VSC were up against Patterson River SC in the first game and our bats came alive early in the piece. With some opportunistic base running, we scored the maximum of 5 runs in the first inning. The opposition were held to two runs in the first inning with some fantastic pitching from James G and the incredible expertise of Harry G behind the plate. VSC continued the dominance with the bat throughout the next 2 innings, finishing the game with a 14-4 win.

The next game against Maribyrnong College proved to be a tougher challenge with very solid pitching and strong hitting across their lineup saw the scoreline move quickly to 6-1. With some amazing defensive plays by Jack C & Ali C, Vermont SC held Maribyrnong scoreless in the 4th inning as the final score was a 7-3 loss which then resulted in our team being eliminated. From a coach’s perspective, the most pleasing aspect of our team was the fight and determination shown right down to the final pitch. The coaching staff of Mr Gillespie, Mr Malpeli and Mr Coles are extremely proud of the students’ efforts throughout the entire campaign, consistently attending training and supporting each other whilst playing in the spirit of the game.

Students who represented VSC proudly include: Jai A, Ali C, Jack C, Jeremy D, Harry G, James G, Cooper L, Ryan S, Will S, Liam W.
