Principal's report

It has been a wonderful start to the school year, students settling back into school routine, re-connecting with their classmates and getting to know their teachers. I just love seeing the students walk through the school gates with huge smiles, chatting with friends and ready for a day of learning and play. Congratulations to everyone on a positive start to 2023.
Parents information sessions are on Monday 6th February (foundation 6-7pm and grade 1/2 7-8pm) and Monday 13th February (grade 3/4 6-7pm and grade 5/6 7-8pm). We strongly encourage parents to attend and have the opportunity to meet all the teachers in their learning community, ask questions and understand the plan for 2023. We considered live streaming the information sessions, but decided to offer you childcare services instead, as we would really love to have as many parents attend as possible. We are excited to connect with you all in person and start the year off by forming a face-to-face connection. When you arrive at school for your information session, please head to your learning community, if you are unsure, just come through the office. Childcare will be available in your learning community.
During the information sessions you will…
- meet your teachers,
- understand the WEPS wellbeing approach, behaviours support and new merit ‘awards’ system
- understand how your children learn at school
- be provided with hints and tips to support your children with their learning at home
- make sure you understand communication platforms and important dates and events
Assemblies 2023
We are excited to bring whole school assemblies back in 2023 and invite all parents to attend the first Thursday of every month at 3pm. Our first assembly is next week on Thursday (2nd Thursday of the month just this time). Please mark this on your calendars, and please come along if you are available.
A couple of reminders…
- Please refrain from sending your children to school before 8.30. We have noticed some children arriving from 8am and this becomes a safety issues, as staff are arriving at school between 8 and 8.30am (please note, staff are not officially on duty until 8.40am).
- We love that lots of children are riding bikes and scooters to school (and strongly encourage it) but we need to ask that students avoid riding on the school grounds before and after school as this also becomes a safety issue. Please remind your children to walk their bike or scooter out of the school grounds.
School Council 2023/2024
We have 4 ‘parent member’ positions open on school council beginning March 2023 until March 2024. I would like to thank Phil Dennis, Casey Gellert, Rebecca Faris and Sam Pereira for their time and dedication to School Council over the past 1-2 years. Departing school council members are welcome to re-nominate.
If you are interested in nominating, we will be sending out nomination forms and more information about School Council tomorrow via Compass.
