East Malvern RSL (EMRSL) Scholarship Schools Scholarship Program

Every year Marty Shields from East Malvern RSL invite students from Malvern Primary and nine other local primary schools to participate in their Remembrance Day Scholarship Program.

The aims of the program are to create awareness among children who are about to enter secondaryl education that the Returned and Services League is an organisation that promotes freedom and safety within a democratic framework and is non-political and non-sectarian and to assist students to achieve a good knowledge of Australian history by encouraging them to enter a competition based on Australian history. In this program EMRSL also aim to grant financial assistance for use in students entry to secondary education to Year 6 students who present the best entry on a topic related to Australian history.

Malvern students are given the opportunity to write a letter or diary entry between an imaginary Australian service personnel and their loved ones. They research a conflict and create letters and diaries from different perspectives, using emotive and expressive language.

This year’s winning entry was from Charlotte E. Congratulations

Charlotte on a well presented and researched entry.

Niamh M, Charlotte D, Lachie N, Liv K and Cate M were also Highly Commended. You can view their writing on this website.
