FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Continuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to unlocking our potential.

TERM 4 - WEEK 8

As a school community we have hit the final bend in the road of 2021. It has been a long and challenging road and there is still work to be done. In the coming weeks we will celebrate and acknowledge those who have supported us along the way.

Yesterday St Nicholas School distributed to families a timeline of events for the Christmas countdown. I trust this provides some clarity around the next few weeks.

2022 STAFFING AT ST NICHOLAS SCHOOL

Last week St Nicholas School completed our staffing for 2022 (fingers crossed). In the coming weeks, parents will be communicated the class structure, though in the meantime I would like to announce the appointments of:

Amy Willis
Amy joins us from St Edward’s South Tamworth with over 20 years experience (including as an REC and Sport coordinator). Amy is highly qualified and currently studying Speech Pathology.

Amy Iles
Amy has just completed her qualification after a career in graphic design. Amy is already a member of our school community with Harrison (6H), Evelyn (4M) and Christian (1C).

Grace Maher
Grace is also a recent graduate who will join us from the Hunter. Grace completed her studies at Newcastle University after a gap year. St Nicholas employed the service of ANZUK Education in Grace’s recruitment process. She came highly recommended and delivered an outstanding interview.

In the coming weeks we will also formally farewell some much loved staff members. In the meantime, if you cross paths, please take a moment to thank them for their professionalism, commitment and contribution to St Nicholas School. They will be sorely missed.

Jess Harris
Jess has made the decision to return home to Barraba  to be closer to family and loved ones.

Amanda Scott
Amanda has accepted a 12 month secondment to the Catholic Schools Office where she will play an integral role in supporting early career teachers.

ST NICHOLAS SCHOOL SHINES AT THE CSNSW DISruptABILITY CONFERENCE

The CSNSW DISruptABILITY Conference was developed to showcase excellence in inclusive practices. St Nicholas School was honoured to be approached by CSNSW to present at the conference.

Congratulations Amanda O’Halloran, Karen Croake and Michelle Martin who developed and delivered a presentation of the highest standard. This presentation focused on two St Nicholas School case studies and related inclusive practices that have been developed to maximise social development, curriculum access and learning for identified students.

BOOK FAIR 2022

During my time as principal of St Nicholas School I have been consistent (and risked sounding like a broken record) with the importance of enhancing our reading culture.

The Book Fair is another small opportunity to promote reading - in this case reading for enjoyment. The smiles on our children’s faces when they purchased a new book, highlights the importance of these opportunities.

An enormous thank you and congratulations to Mrs Julie McGuirk (and her band of helpers) on another extremely successful book fair.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT - THIS WEEK'S BRAIN TEASER

If 7 is transformed into 13 and 11 is changed to 21 then what does 16 become?

The 5th student to say the correct answer to Mrs Dickie will win a lunch at Friar's Tuckshop on the day of their choosing.  Best of luck!

Have a great weekend.

John Clery
