Secondary Sub School News

2021 will be remembered as a year when we all developed new skills. We will al sit back and reflect on how hard we worked, how flexible we were and how the year went by in a flash. I hope you all felt that your child has been given supported by staff at JSA. While the remote learning period significantly hampered our plans for 2021, we hope that you felt supported as part of our community. 

This will be my final newsletter as the Secondary Sub School Leader, as I will be moving to Broome in 2022 to commence a new role. I may be back in the future, but Miranda Ingram will be taking over in 2022. Miranda is a member of our team, and she has worked with the students and staff at JSA for a number of years. Thank you all for the conversations, recommendations and tips. It has been a privilege to work alongside you all, and I wish you all the best for the upcoming holiday period. Enjoy your break!

Mark Taylor

I have been able to spend time with all of our graduated students over the past 4 years in my role as Sub School Leader. I have seen students here increase their vocabulary to have more control over their lives, and I have seen student’s complete Certificate II courses while also joining the workforce for the first time. What all of our graduates share is a desire to continue to grow, and an authentic sense of trust with the adults they work with every day. 

Each student here can always rely on their staff being here to offer them the support they need, and advocate for them when they are telling us (with words or their actions) that they are ready for new challenges. Our job has always been to offer new opportunities to every student at JSA, and we will continue to do this into the future. We have shared the journey with your children, and watched them grow. 

I wanted to wish families, carers and friends all the best for this next step. Change is always exciting, even though it may feel scary. We always grow when we challenge ourselves, and I hope you will enjoy this next step in your lives.
