Sharing The Planet
YEAR THREE - TERM 4A, 2021
Sharing the Planet
CENTRAL IDEA
Survival of a species is dependent on its environmental conditions
As an International Baccalaureate world school, authorised to teach the Primary Year’s Programme, we explore six transdisciplinary themes each year.
Concepts
- Responsibility
- Causation
Lines of Inquiry
- Living and non-living things
- The differences between living, once living and products of living things
- Species in danger of becoming extinct
- Factors affecting the survival of some species
Action
The students were asked to prepare an oral presentation about an endangered animal and then use this information to create a factual narrative. The narratives will then be recorded in Flip Grid and shared with the Junior School to help educate them about endangered animals.
We were most impressed with the student engagement throughout this unit. They showed great empathy for their chosen endangered animals.
It was also wonderful to see how many students took further action by donating to charities that supported their animals. Several students across the year level even adopted an endangered animal of their choice to help their cause.
