Role at Hillsmeade: Mandarin Teacher

 

How long have you been at Hillsmeade?  A bit over one year.

 

What do you love about Hillsmeade the most? The diversity amongst staff as well as in students. 

 

Best Hillsmeade moment so far?  When students told me they enjoyed the lesson and thanked me for teaching them and when students used Mandarin words I taught them to have a little conversation with me in the yard. 

 

Where were you born? China.

 

Do you have any brothers or sisters? I have a big sister.

 

Do you have any pets? Not at the moment.

 

Which footy team do you follow? Hawthorn.

 

Favourite ice cream flavour? Chocolate.

 

Favourite thing to do? Swimming.

 

Do you know how to play a musical instrument? I’m a beginner at learning to play the piano.

 

Favourite song to sing along to?  In My Life (Beatles)

 

If you could join any past or current band/music group, which would it be? ABBA.

 

Favourite book? To Kill A Mockingbird.

 

Best holiday so far? A two-week drive around South Island in New Zealand in 2019. 

 

Where would you like to travel to that you haven’t been yet?  Tibet.

 

Favourite food? Noodles.

 

Favourite thing to cook? Dumplings.

 

Have you ever met someone famous?  Kitty Flanagan

 

What is your proudest accomplishment? Sea kayaking from Sandringham to Brighton and back in a rainy day. 

 

What makes you laugh the most? Family jokes that bring back great memories.

 

Favourite movie? Scent of a Woman.

 

What did you want to be when you were a child? A soldier. 

 

Favourite superhero? Monkey King.

 

If you could travel back in time, where would you go?  The year I was 18. 

 

What is the best gift you have been given? A really big dictionary my dad bought me – as a reward for getting through a very challenging year at school. 

 

Favourite animal? Not an animal person but all my friends’ dogs seem to like me. 

 

Favourite colour? Grey.

 

Favourite actor?  Al Pacino.

 

Coffee or tea? Coffee.

 

What was your favourite subject at school? Chemistry. I was very lucky to have had the two best chemistry teachers at high school. They made the invisible micro world so fascinating. 

 

Do you collect anything? I collected five or six albums of stamps as a kid. Going about in the neighbourhood to deliver mail to neighbours and getting awarded with many pretty stamps from their envelopes was a pure joy in my childhood memories. Many of the stamps were from abroad which made me super intrigued in languages and cultures at an early age. 

 

What was your first job? Landscape architect

 

Can you speak another language? Mandarin

 

Which language would you like to learn?  Japanese and Spanish.
