Students: What we value

Year Two’s Giving Up Their Lunch And Recess

Year Two’s Giving Up Their Lunch And Recess To Pick Up Rubbish – What Litterbugs!

Written by Olivia W and Georgie S, Interviews by Georgia L, Pippa H, Georgie S, Olivia W, Chloe W and Audrey P from 6K.

They knew the environment’s safety was in their hands – soon enough, they will be planting palm trees! A few students form 6K went to interview the Year two’s who were giving up their playtime to pick up rubbish, to keep our schoolyard clean. We asked them some questions about what inspired them – here is what they said:

What makes you want to do this?

“We want to take care of the environment.” – Salma, 2R.

“To make the world a better place.” – Alex, 2R.

How important is the environment to you?

“Very, I want the world to be nice.” – Levi, 2R.

What message would you want to give to the kids of Ivanhoe?

“Nobody littering!” – Amelia, 2R.

“To keep the environment safe.” - Simon, 2R.

“To stop people from littering.” – Abbie, 2B.

If you could change one thing about the school environment, what would it be?

“Working as a team, saving (the) environment.” – Ella, 2R.

We would like to say thank you for putting in so much effort, we speak for everyone when we say you have done such a good job, keeping our schoolyard clean and safe.

Last week I set the Year 5 and Year 6 students a simple writing.

Their task was to write a sentence or two about what they value about IPS.

Why?

Because our students have attended school through a pandemic. They are the first in an age to have experienced lock downs, lock ins and restricted movement since war time. Because we dont want to take for granted what they are feeling, what they are concerned about - and how we, as adults, might step up to the plate and advocate and seize this opportunity to improve our education system and support every child.

Let's listen...

My favourite part of IPS is the way we learn. It’s fun because it is different every day. It normally involves team work and creativity. We have plenty of resources and the teachers are helpful. There are lots of classrooms including a new building coming for the year 5 and 6’s. Everyone is very nice here. I believe IPS is a fun, engaging place to learn.

Maddie.

My favourite part about I.P.S is that it is always making nice new buildings. I also like that IPS cares about its student education. I also like how all of the I.P.S teachers are really helpful.

David.

My favourite part of IPS is the cleanliness of the whole place and how our resources are very good. I really like how the whole school community is respectful to each other. All the teachers and staff are really helpful! It is a school where every student loves to be.

Luca.

My favourite part of IPS is having awesome friends, nice teachers and fun classes.

Anon.

What I like about IPS is there’s lots of helpful teachers. My favourite part is the playgrounds and people. I think IPS is the best school. There are reasons I love IPS. The gardens are amazing, historical buildings and all the other students are kind and respectful.

Iris.

I think IPS because it is safe and there are great teachers. I also like that the school gives strips of paper to the children so that they can get information about what the students like. My favourite part of IPS is that there is a range of wildlife. I think IPS is the best school. Those are the 5 reasons I like IPS.

Wilson.

I think IPS is great because there are lots of helpful teachers. We get to experience lots of different classes, such as Phys. Ed and Art. I have good friends that are kind and respectful to everyone. We are fortunate to have lots of space to play in.

Logan.

What I like about IPS is that it is so welcoming. Whenever I walk through those beautiful gardens into the big, charming brick building. I smile, I’m so happy at the merry school. I am respected and encouraged to express myself. At school, I am confident and independent.

Carys C.

I think Ivanhoe Primary is a great school. I really like how we have lots of interesting activities like Battle of the Bands, coding robots and reader’s theatre. I also like that IPS is a really safe environment and all the teacher are really nice and understanding. I like how outside there are lots of areas to sit and talk and there is the big oval to run around in. I’m really excited to go in the new building soon.

Hannah.

I am 11 years old and I was born on the 24th of August 2009 and I like to be very respectful. I play tennis and I kind of like soccer as well. I love the new buildings that are coming. I have 2 sisters and they are very kind too. My favourite things to do is play with my dog or play games.

Josh.

IPS is an awesome school with kind and helpful teachers and respectful students. I love the buildings and I can’t wait to learn and have fun in the new building. I love IPS I don’t want to go to high school.

Alexis.

I think IPS is a wonderful place because it is a beautiful school and in the school there is a lot of beautiful teachers. I like this school because there are always new things built.

Ethan Z.

I think that IPS is fine right now. But what I would say that it can still improve because we could add more playground equipment for the foundations, maybe.

Mina Y.

I think IPS is the best school because you get to be a Peer Leader in Grade 5 and 6 and other schools don’t (for example Ivanhoe East Primary). It’s a big school with lots of people, but that doesn’t matter, because you still get to make lots of friends and have fun!

Anzhelika Y.

I think IPS is an amazing school and have wonderful teachers and students. I have been here since prep and have made some terrific friends. Next year, I will be in Year 6 which means it will be my last year at IPS and then I will be going into high school. I am going to be really sad to leave the school.

Panagiota.

I think IPS is a fantastic educational school with great teachers. We are lucky to be in IPS because it has amazing battle of the bands, adventurous camping, fun bike Ed, new buildings and many more exciting things.

Candace.

I think that IPS is a safe place where you can believe in yourself to do better and grow as a learner and have a great future. In my opinion IPS is the biggest reason I get up in the morning I couldn’t think of a better place to learn because in the morning I get up, get dressed, go to school, put my thinking cap on, take a deep breath and start a new amazing day.

Amelia.

It is a pretty good school. I guess maybe it could use some more playgrounds though, because they keep on getting taken down to make more room for buildings. The buildings are pretty good though.

Alex

I think IPS is a school that could use a bit of work here and there. Like there’s been some problems like stealing money, kicking people and stuff like that. SO I think the yard duty staff should pay more attention sometimes.

Hugo.

I think IPS is a great school because everyone learns about new things. I think the students are well behaved and everyone are caring to each other. Everyone follows the rules and all of the teachers are amazing.

May.

I think that IPS is an organised school. It is filled with respect, confidence, resilience, persistence and independence. Everyone gets the respect they deserve. No one laughs when someone tries something, which gives them confidence. At IPS, we encourage each other so we believe in ourselves making us independent and persistent. We are not afraid to fail.

Mophie.

I think IPS is a great school to learn at. Because IPS has a great principal and great teachers and that’s why I think IPS is great.

Peter G.

I think IPS is an amazing place to be! I have made lots of new friends. Met new people. It’s good how I and others feel safe in IPS! I like how there is a few special events though at the year/years. Enjoy your day.

Evie C.

I think IPS is a good school and it’s an enjoyable place to be. I like how all the teachers are very caring and loving. I also think it’s a very good place to learn because all the teachers help you out. When someone falls over the other kids are very nice and take care of you and help you. I also think there should be no bullying and the rules have helped a lot. Not many people have been getting bullied. I really enjoy being at Ivanhoe Primary School.

Abby.

I think that IPS is a kind and caring school, where children come to learn, make friends and have fun. IPS makes sure that kids feel safe and at home, and they are not dreading the day ahead of them.

Imogen H.

I think IPS is pretty good overall with the things it has. For example nice people here and I think I would rate the school 8.5/10. There are some things the school should add like not having random lines on the floor or having more rubbish bins in the yard, I think the music and bell should be louder for the people playing at the bottom of the school. But, overall I think this school is amazing.

Sean D.

I think IPS is a warm, friendly place, like a second home for me. Yes, there is some bullying and that is not ok. But, in the end it all gets solved. I feel IPS has taught me more about respect, and how to be more confident. It has taught me how to feel compassionate about how people feel and how to deal with them. IPS is an awesome place where I feel happy and safe. So all in all, IPS is a happy, awesome place with good rules, making other students feel safe and happy as well.

Zoe F.

I think IPS is a great school and really welcoming. I am really excited for our new building although, I love the old building. This year was my first year peer-leading and that was really fun. IPS is also really funny like how the other day we had sport and Mrs. Wright came in and measured herself. I love going down to the bottom of the school and hanging out with my friends. Also my teacher is Ms. Romeo and she’s so cool! IPS has the best teachers!

Jessie.

Improvements for the school – May be there should be more space to run around, less rubbish everywhere. Maybe cleaner environments, a big playground. 15 minutes inside eating should be better. Don’t have to play outside, e.g.hall or library (because hot days being outside is like in the oven). More excursions for bigger grades, no upset students who have been teased at.

We are listening. Thank you for sharing.
