Term 4, 2020 - Week 10
As we enter the final stages of our year together in Grade 5, we reflect on what a year it has been! We expected the unexpected and rose to its challenges, proving what incredible resilience we all have; especially our students who returned to school as though they had not been away. Being back together for Term 4 has been what we all needed and we are incredibly grateful for that.
Our students have continued working hard through their Literacy sessions; focusing on reading responses and using our Signpost Strategies to develop a deeper understanding of both ‘good fit books’ and their class serial book - the discussions that evolve from these are inspiring! Students continue to practise their writing, focusing on using descriptive language and linking their reading strategies to their writing in order to create interesting, meaningful text with a strong message.
Our Maths sessions continued to focus on the fundamental skills and concepts our students will take with them into Grade 6 and beyond. We have worked within the concepts of Patterns and Algebra and now turn our focus to revisiting the four operations and applying skills learned to problem solving. Mathletics and Prodigy remain popular with our students.
This term’s Integrated unit, Connections, saw the election of our 2021 school leaders to the positions of School, Sports, House, Technology, Environmental, Art, Choir and Library Captains. The presentations to the Grade 4, 5, 6 students and our Principals saw a high quality of speeches from all our candidates. The Grade 5 Team are incredibly proud of all our students during this process; we know our school is in great hands in 2021. We have also focused on our students’ health and wellbeing, working within units from both The Resilience Project and the Department’s Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program. It is vital that we empower our students with important skills that will empower them to become invaluable members of our Oatlands Primary School and the wider school community.
Our gratitude and thanks are always extended to the amazing Specialist Team here at Oatlands, for they give our students’ the skills and experience so important for their personal and academic growth. We hope that you were able to watch the Oatlands Unite. Together We Are One’ dance production last Monday - we might be biased, but we believe the Grade 5 dances and dancers stole the show! Another very proud moment for us all!
We are all really looking forward to our Grade 5 Pizza+Movie Night tonight, where we can celebrate the ‘year that was’ and have some fun together. .
On a personal note from the Grade 5 Team: thank-you so very much to you, our Grade 5 Families, for your support throughout 2020 - we could not have done this without you! Wishing you all a wonderful break; stay safe, relax and have fun!🙂
