Principal's Message

Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families,

NO SCHOOL FRIDAY 12th FEBRUARY

Just a quick reminder that here is no school tomorrow as staff are engaging in professional development of Fountas and Pinnell.

MARAMBA'S STEAM CREATION STUDIO

I am delighted to share with our community that our STEAM Creation Studio is now fully operational. While it has always been our intention to have STEAM a specialism at Maramba, it has taken a couple of years to bring it to life. This was significantly helped by a successful grant application, where we received $15,000 through the Local Community Schools Fund at the end of 2019. Despite the challenges of 2020, we have been able to transform the building to what it is today – our very own dedicated STEAM Creation Studio. For a small community school this truly is a remarkable addition to our amazing school.

However, the building and contents are just part of the fabric which make something great. A very important element of making an exciting but necessary leap in providing students with another relevant and stimulating learning experience is the staff. Mrs Alison Kettle is certainly the glue required to help bring this all together. Her love and passion for investigation, problem solving, asking and answer questions through a series of Innovation Tasks and Engineering Design Challenges ensures that our students love for learning is continually ignited.

This year all of our students from Foundation to Year 6 have already started STEAM lessons and will be constantly challenged to problem solve and think outside of the box. They will learning and studying in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) enabling students to develop real-world skills. In 2021 students will delve deep inside areas of Biological, Physical, Chemical, Earth and Space Sciences with many other curriculum areas intertwined and integrated throughout. They will be faced with ethical dilemmas and topics of conversation that expose and expand their literal and inferential thinking skills. Students will be taught that making mistakes in going wrong is a normal part of life; they will leave STEAM lessons with more questions than they walked in the door with, due to hunger and curiosity for deeper knowledge.

We are looking forward to a year of questions and curiosity ahead in STEAM!
