SENIOR BOYS CRICKET

Senior Boys Cricket won the Kingston Division Round Robin last Thursday and today won the SMR Quarter Final against Dandenong High.

Our batting stars Lachie Smith (Year 12) and Ben Porter (Year 12) continue to make scores that have seen us win every match so far in 2021.

Vrushank Manchana (Year 12) was the pick of the bowlers in the Quarter Final with a splendid 3/4 off his 3.1 overs.

INTERMEDIATE BOYS CRICKET

The Intermediate Boys Cricket team travelled to Caulfield Park to play in the annual Kingston Division Cricket competition.

Game 1 vs Bentleigh.

Bentleigh batted first and smashed up a very competitive 72 off their 8 overs with Krishna Sridhar (Year 9) and Ewan Daly (Year 10), our only wicket takers.

In reply, we managed to get the runs quite easily in the end with Thivi Salwathura (Year 10) and Lewis Sellenger (Year 10) guiding us home with 45 and 29 retired respectively.

Game 2 vs Mordialloc

We came up against a very strong Mordialloc outfit in our second pool game. After batting first, we managed to post a competitive total of 58. Lewis Sellenger again led the way with 27 and a nice little contribution at the end from the hard hitting Sam Enever (Year 10). In reply, Mordialloc were able to get the runs with a couple of balls to spare.

Game 3 vs Westall

The final pool game against Westall was a comfortable 66 to 28 victory. Josh Smith (Year 10), Kane Vaughan (Year 9) and Krishna Sridhar were all in the runs and the wickets were shared evenly again.

Semi Final vs Parkdale

The Semi-Final against Parkdale eventuated in a very tight finish. McKinnon made 54 after batting first. A timely 18 not out from Sam Enever saved the innings after a rocky start and the contributions from Senin Seymour (Year 9) and Josh Smith helped us to a score of 54. Parkdale replied steadily, however they needed 13 for victory off the last over. Two boundaries made the situation comfortable for them, however needing two to win off two balls, Thivi Salwathura grabbed two wickets to snatch the game for McKinnon.

Final vs Mordialloc

We faced the undefeated Mordialloc in the final and once again batted first. Lewis Sellenger lead the way again with a stylish 39 in our total of 54.

Having the field and bowl at our best to claim the pennant for the day, the McKinnon boys were at their best against the very strong Mordialloc outfit. Thivi and Ewan managed to claim a couple of wickets for us and we were on track to defend our score. However with 5 needed off the final ball, gun Mordialloc batsman Harry Di Mattia was able to hit a six and win the match for Mordialloc.

INTERMEDIATE GIRLS CRICKET

Last Monday, the Intermediate Girls Cricket team played three matches at Duncan Mackinnon in the Kingston Division Cricket competition.

First up we played Bentleigh. We batted first with Rowen Hull (Year 9) and Yeheni Dona Gabadage (Year 9) opening the batting making 38 between them. We batted out the overs, making a strong score of 56. Bentleigh had a tough run chase ahead of them. We had a good spread of bowlers, with Cailtin Lyon (Year 10) taking a wicket and Annabelle Sakurai (Year 10) with an amazing run out that surprised even her! Bentleigh made 37 off their overs.

Next we played newly established Beaumaris College. Opening the batting this time was Aspen Lehmann (Year 10) and Rowen Hull and I bet Beaumaris wished they hadn't. With an unbeaten partnership of 70 off 10 overs! Aspen had a day out with 5 boundaries. Beaumaris managed 45 off their 10 overs, our bowlers and fielders also leading the way taking 5 wickets.

Finally, we had a play off with Brighton for the title of Kingston Champion. We won our first toss and chose to bowl. Some new bowlers stepped up, sharing around the 8 wickets! Caitlin Lyon, Joo Ji (Year 9) and Arden Bailey (Year 10) each with 2 wickets each and a great stumping by the wicker keeper, Bianca Sguario (Year 10).

Needing 24 to win, we were quietly confident going in to bat but when Brighton's first two bowlers bowled maiden overs, we were getting a little nervous. Luckily, Aspen and Bianca were up to the task and made the required runs with 4 overs to spare.

DANCE CONCERT

On Thursday 18 February the PE department organised a dance concert hosted by Dagogo for the Nikki Visaj Dance Movement to welcome students back to school after the snap lockdown.

The concert took place at recess on the A1 stage, with a huge turnout of 100’s of students and staff joining in and watching the dance. A group of Year 7 Boys were the first to join Dagogo on the stage as his ‘backing dancers’, before jumping up to the front to perform some solo’s. They were swiftly joined by a huge group of students from all year levels where they learnt and performed a short routine and broke into a dance battle.

The concert was a huge success, with all students involved enjoying the music and dance, recess was extended a little so the students could keep the party going!

Due to the popularity of this event, the next concert is now scheduled for Thursday 11 March.....make sure you're there and get involved!
