Year 10 Work Experience

Dear Year 10 students and families of Coburg HS Term 1 2021 I wanted to inform you all that the Year 10 Work Experience Program is still going ahead this year despite all of the challenges and limitations (i.e. in regards to where a student can undertake their placements due to COVID-19). Despite this however Coburg HS are going to forge ahead and support all of our Coburg HS Year 10 students to secure a successful week of work experience during June this year. The dates are Friday 11th June to Friday 18th June 2021 (due to Monday 14th June being a public holiday). This opportunity means that all Year 10 students are given an allocated week to explore the reality of the world of work, develop confidence, learn new skills and knowledge, with the opportunity to gain a part time job. Work Experience also helps with confidence and further inspiration about possible career pathways and interests. As the Careers Coordinator at Coburg HS I am asking that parents please keep in mind that many organisations such as Hospitals and nursing homes, zoos and other more high risk COVID-19 environments are now unable to accept young people this year. This is a Department of Education directive so unfortunately our students will be unable to attend these organisations in 2021 even if you may have a contact. Can parents please consider taking on a student or recommending them to a potential employer through your contacts and connections in the wider community?  I think we all need to be creative and innovative in our approach to supporting the work experience program in 2021. This means that accepted placements are: primary schools, retail and hospitality, Bunnings, Coles, IGA childcare, kindergartens, Universities and other lower risk environments.

Please email me if you have any queries or suggestions about this or work experience please email: emma.ford@coburg.vic.edu.au. Also as part of the Work Experience program we are looking at complementing the program with a Virtual Work Experience interactive program for students which will be supported at school in conjunction with Year 10 Home Group teachers and relevant Coburg HS staff. The details are yet to be confirmed. The Work Experience Arrangement Forms are called “The Package” which includes a Work Experience Arrangement Form, an Additional COV1D-19 form and x2 Safe@Work Modules Certificates including General and Industry Specific. The Package is due in Term 1 on Wednesday 31st March 2021 in Term 1.
