INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC LESSONS

Instrumental Music Lessons have now commenced and with the first week down, all students who have enrolled in our Program should have had their first lesson by now. (Anyone who has not had a lesson needs to come and speak with me in the Music Office). We are very happy to share the great news that our places for Violin, Viola, Singing and Trumpet are at capacity. However, we are still offering places for students to learn Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Double Bass, Woodwind, Guitar and Percussion.

If you are interested, please give us a call on 8872 6369 to find out how to be involved in 2021’s program.

ONLINE LEARNING IN THE MUSIC PROGRAM

Our Instrumental Music Team are dedicated to continuing with our program as best we can. Last year during the long months of lockdown, we found that students responded to the Music Lessons very well and for many, it was a fun and engaging way to stay connected to the college, their friends and the community and to be immersed in something that they can practice on their own at home.

Although ensemble rehearsals cannot run during lockdowns, we are still very keen and excited to share music with our students online. We thank all staff and parents for their ongoing commitment and support of our students in their music tuition in these changing times we find ourselves in.

LOW BRASS SCHOLARSHIP

The Instrumental Music Program here at Vermont Secondary is primarily focussed on band/ensemble performances. One of the key elements of a successful and great sounding band is in achieving the right balance of instruments and sounds. With this in mind, this year we have decided to offer 3 places for any students interested in learning a low Brass instrument (Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba) in the junior or middle years.

This scholarship will offer FREE tuition from a highly experienced Brass Teacher for the first semester with the view to commit to a full year of study. Please come and see us in the Music Centre for more Information.

HIRING INSTRUMENTS

For students who have opted to hire an instrument for 2021, and who have returned a hire agreement form, you should now have been allocated an instrument for your own personal use for the year. If you have not received your instrument yet, please see me at the Music Centre.

CONTEMPORARY/ROCK PROGRAM

We are very excited to reintroduce our Contemporary Rock Program for students who are interested in joining a band. This will be a great opportunity to perform to the college community and be involved in various events throughout the school year.

We are looking for anyone interested in playing Drums, Bass, Guitar, Keyboards or Singing.

Once we have enough numbers, we will begin rehearsals during lunchtimes. Please come and see us if you are interested.

ENSEMBLE REHEARSALS

Currently, all of our Ensemble rehearsals should now be underway (Except Junior String Orchestra and Rookie Band which will start in week 6 after year 7 camp).

MUSIC SUPPORT GROUP

The Music Support Group (MSG) is a group of parents, students and friends who support the instrumental music program with fundraising, concert events and excursions throughout the year. The group meets for an hour twice a term after hours to discuss upcoming events and to share ideas about how best to support the Music Program here at Vermont.  It is a great way to meet other parents, make a connection with the school and provide support for students involved. If you are interested in participating, volunteering or getting involved, please contact 8872 6369.
