Oliver Eyre – through to State Athletic Championships

Ripponlea’s star hurdler, Oliver Eyre, is through to the State Athletic Championships to be held next Wednesday 2 November at Lakeside Stadium after another stellar performance at the South Metro Regional Athletics Carnival held last week at Cranbourne.

Supported on the day by his proud parents, Oliver placed second in the 11Boys 80m Hurdles, to qualify for the upcoming State Championships.

The entire Ripponlea PS community is super proud of Oliver’s efforts so far on the athletics track and we wish him the very best of luck next Wednesday.

Go Oliver!!!

Fully Loaded Softball Team win Division Final!

Last Thursday morning, our Year 6 Fully Loaded Softball Team played their Division Final, after winning the District Fully Loaded Softball Round Robin, back in Term 1.

After a couple of training sessions to reacquaint ourselves with the rules of this modified game, the team of 11 took on opponent, Coatesville Primary, at Bailey Reserve.

The game was a nail biter with both Ripponlea and Coatesville demonstrating some great hitting and slick work, out in the field. The second innings was Ripponlea’s best and with some excellent batting by a number of our players and we were able to set up a handy lead going into the final innings.

Coatesville turned up the pressure in the last innings and tested our fielding skills with some big hits into the outfield, testing our decision-making and nerves.

Ripponlea won the game 23-20 and will now progress to the South Metro Regional Final (day and time tbc) which is a phenomenal achievement.

Thank you to the parents who came along to support the team and congratulations to the following team members:

Rio K, Elena L, Eve W, Frankie A, Gus W, Lenny N, Lewyn B, Peter K, Gabe F, Alex K, Oliver E

Coach: Susie Massey

PERFORMING ARTS

Well, we have been very busy in the performing arts so far this term. As well singing and playing our percussion instruments and dancing up a storm we have been looking at various ways of presenting drama.

This has been continued from the wonderful work our students completed with puppetry last term where everyone (well almost everyone) got to perform a puppet show to another year level.

This term we have been trying to present some live theatre beginning with Mime. We have been practicing telling stories without words- just using actions.

This week we went a little bit crazy miming a band on stage created on our own Green Screen stage. As you can see in the pictures below, it was quite the hit!

Meanwhile, the choir has been getting ready for their performance at the 100th Anniversary School Fete where they will do a medley of ABBA songs.

Oh and we are still learning about the history of popular music each week. Some of the students write down the names of artists and songs featured so they can play the songs on Spotify.
