Year 9 DTO Camp

Vermont Secondary College

Year 9 Discover the Outdoors Camp

Wow, what a 3 days it has been from the 16th Nov - 18th Nov 2022.

I had such a great time at Warburton!

I have enjoyed hiking, sleeping in a tent, cooking, eating, climbing up the summit etc. with my campmates. I’m so glad that my campmates congratulated me for pushing through the entire 10km hike on the final day and all the other hikes we did on Day 2 and 3.

Thank you Mr Coles and Mr Gillespie for organising this fun and amazing DTO camp.

In fact, I haven’t been camping outdoors since February 2018 and what a time to make history with my school mates!

That is my 3 massive DIS moments! I will now be willing to take my family and friends to go camping maybe next holidays.

Thank you Mr Coles and Mr G!!

I felt as though the camp was a benevolent and enjoyable experience. I enjoyed cooking and eating with others. It was both delicious and wholesome.

Despite the mud and leeches on the way through the hike, the effort was worth it after the tiresome uphill walk when we encountered bundles of snow. Throwing snowballs with your friends was truly an experience you don’t encounter in your life. By Vilo P

The camp to Warburton was a highly anticipated and exciting experience as it was the first time any DTO class had gone there. We spent the whole semester learning how to pack our bags, cook, set up tents etc for the camp.

Going on this camp I was a little worried as we were heading into the unknown.

However Mr G and Mr Coles ensured we felt comfortable and were taking the right equipment. Once we arrived everyone was really excited to get out and explore.

The first day was probably the highlight for most people on the camp as we got to see snow. This was a surprise to everyone as the week before the weather was in the high 20’s and sunny. One of the main things I’ll take out of this camp is that you can achieve anything you set your mind to. I’m grateful for the new friends I made on the camp and feel privileged I got to participate in this once in a lifetime experience. By Caitlin S.

The recent camp at Warburton was an awesome experience for myself and the rest of the group. We were all given the rare opportunity to witness and experience some incredible things, most notably the snow. Personally, snow is something I don’t get to experience every day, and what made it even better was the fact that it was the middle of November. Additionally, I really enjoyed the camping in general as I do not often go camping outside of school. The camp gave me a great opportunity to discover a passion for camping, hiking, and adventure.
