Live Love Learn

Dear Families,

It has been a challenging time over the past few months and we hope that you are all staying healthy, resilient and finding ways to keep connected to your friends and family members that you cannot visit at the moment.

When my children were younger and still at home, we would often acknowledge the simple things in life that we were grateful for, during a pre-dinner prayer. Focussing on the positives can help you to lessen the concerns felt by your children. It might also be useful to acknowledge those impacted by COVID-19 in family prayers and discussions.

Whilst we are experiencing the limitations of Stage 4, you might consider trying to find three things that you are most grateful for and at least one  person you are grateful for in your life.

Learning and Teaching in the Juniors

Prep

In STEM, the Preps have been exploring how different objects are made from varying materials. The students had to find objects around their house that are made of different types of materials such as: wood, plastic, metal, rubber.

They have also been learning to write a recount and use punctuation correctly in their writing. The students had to write a recount about the craft 'Word of the Week' word they created.

Have a look at some of the excellent recounts written by: Saanjh V (Prep S), Pieter V (Prep M), Valerie D (Prep M) and Claire T (Prep S).

The students also played 'Sweet Scoops' where

they had to roll the dice 4 times to complete an ice-cream order: add together the price of each scoop to work out the total cost and work out the change from $5. Aliya B (1S) and Jaxon M (1S) show their results.

School Closure Day

A reminder that tomorrow is a School Closure Day and there will be no Remote Learning taking place. Students may use this time to complete unfinished work. TheirCare will be available for children of permitted workers only as detailed below.

TheirCare

From Thursday 6 August, only the children of Permitted workers and vulnerable children are able to access TheirCare. This applies also for our School Closure Day tomorrow, 14 August, as well as morning care from 7am and afternoon care from 2:30pm Monday to Friday.

An Access to Onsite Childcare/ Kindergarten Permit  (Permitted Industry-Employee Working from Home) must be completed by permitted workers who are working from home to allow for access to TheirCare. Please note that this does not allow for your child to attend onsite supervision at school as different conditions apply. By completing the form, you are declaring that you are unable to supervise your children in the course of your duties and don’t have anyone else in the household who can supervise them. Both the employee and employer are required to sign this form. The form must be given to TheirCare and produced upon entry.

Please note that there are limited places available at TheirCare due to staffing restrictions, and admissions for the week commencing August 17th will need to be limited to 2 sessions per week per family. After this we will have a clearer indication of the number of students we need to accommodate and we will then evaluate if we can allow more sessions per family per week. You will need to follow the usual booking procedure with TheirCare.

For more information regarding childcare services and to obtain an Access to Childcare (Working from Home) form, go to the Department of Health and Human Services

Blessing

Enjoy this fitting poem written by a Year 5 student:

Enfolded

I hear a gentle knocking at the door of my heart,

Opening the door with a golden key, standing there I suddenly see,

A knowing smile on a familiar face

And outstretched arms ready to embrace.

His voice is an enlightening flame that can never be extinguished,

As I willingly and wearily rest, my needy head on His pierced chest,

His Heart beat is the wind and the flapping wings of a dove

I am covered and enfolded in the infinite blanket of Jesus’ Love.

This Saturday is the Feast of The Assumption

You might like to pray this prayer:

Father in heaven, all creation rightly gives you praise, for all life and all holiness come from you.In the plan of your wisdom she who bore the Christ in her womb was raised body and soul in glory to be with him in heaven. May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness and join in her hymn of endless love and praise. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen

May you and your family be 'covered and enfolded in the infinite blanket of Jesus’ Love.'

God bless.
