Year 3/4 News

Celebrating Learning
Learning Online from home has helped us to develop many skills. Two very important skills that have been worked on are the skill of Time Management and Patience.
(Many many more skills, of course, have been learnt and developed)
We all know how important both of these skills are to acquire and how we need them to enable us to function every day. These life long skills are continuously being developed and we are most proud of the students in the 3/4 level who have worked hard to develop these skills. In this virtual world, it has been challenging but the students have established personalised weekly timetables to ensure this skill is being practiced and embedded.

Daily Uploads
Students are asked to continue uploading their reading and maths tasks every day. Students are also required to upload their writing tasks every Friday, as well as their weekly spelling and dictation.
Reading
Students will continue to build on their knowledge and skills of summarising, making connections (to themselves, other texts and the world) and inferring. They will be continually reminded to draw on prior knowledge and information within the text to make comprehensive and detailed inferences.
Within reading clinics, students will be developing their skills of 'connectives', both simple (first, then, next and last) and sophisticated (however, although, therefore). Identifying and highlighting connectives through reading will support students in improving their connections in their writing.
Writing
The students are now 'into the groove' of the 'Individual Writer's Routine'. The students are beginning to explore some really interesting and engaging seeds which they have been excitedly unpacking in great detail. From their seed, the students have recorded different text types in their plans and have produced some brilliant short pieces of writing which they should feel incredibly proud of! The students are uploading pieces that demonstrate a high level of skill including correct punctuation, paragraphing, sentence structure, and spelling. Can we take this opportunity to remind all students to upload their writing pieces on a Friday to be corrected during writing conference time the following week.
Numeracy
As we are coming to a conclusion in the 'formal' teaching of Fractions this week, the students have unpacked an enormous amount of content in this area. Fractions concepts are difficult concepts to grasp, but all of the students have demonstrated persistence and patience and have shown huge growth! The content areas that students have been working on include modelling and representing fractions (1/2, 1/4, 1/3, 1/5), fractions as decimals, proper, improper fractions, and mixed fractions. We are continuing to encourage families to practice fractions when cooking, building, and when reading time. The 3/4's will continue revising fractions, whilst moving into our next unit of 'Time'.
Personal Passion Projects (PPP)
The Personal Passion Projects are truly underway and the students have enjoyed the time to design, create, and produce a project that showcases their passion and interest. This passion project has tapped into the student's talents-the things they love and that brings them joy.
We have excited to share with our school community the wonderful work that has occurred over the past weeks.
GEORGIA MARAGOS
For my PPP I made a hot air balloon piñata. I used a balloon, glue, paper and paint for the red balloon. I made a box out of a cardboard box and wool. The anchor is a safety pin and wool.
MARCEL MORTELLARO
For my PPP I made boat. I was able to test it out in the backyard pond.

NIAMH MAHER
For PPP, I researched the history of harps. Watch until the end for a special surprise!

Daily Reading & Reading Log Entry
We would like to remind families about the importance of daily reading. Taking time out to stop and read a text is of great benefit. Your child is required to complete their daily reading log. Once they have read, they are required to record the title of the book, how long they have read, the number of pages, and summarise the message/issues in a sentence. At the end of the Week (Fridays), the reading log is submitted and reading noted by the homeroom teacher. It has been noted that some children in the 3/4 level are not regularly completing the reading log this term. The reading log is found on Google Classroom. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to viewing the various texts the children areengaging with.
Daily Timetable Updates
Please be advised that between the hours of
11 am to 12 pm daily. Teachers will not be responding to student questions and comments. We ask that the students be patient during this time, and questions will be answered as soon as possible outside these hours.
