Science Education

"The best scientists and explorers have the attributes of kids. They ask questions and have a sense of wonder. They have curiosity. Who, what, where, why, when, and how!"

🌏 HAPPY NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK 2020!! 🌊

National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology.

By now, your children should have each received a special gift in the mail from St Raphaels, a Science Toy Box, which includes all that is needed to complete 7 chemical science experiments. This was a gift to your children so that they could celebrate and get excited about National Science Week 2020. This week in Science, students will be asked to complete the 7 experiments during science time.

🧲️ St Raphael's Virtual Science Pop-Up Shop:

St Raphael's has collaborated with Science Supplies Australia to open our inaugural online Virtual Science Shop! This is a wonderful opportunity to further engage your children with science learning by purchasing some very cool science toys/products. Science Supplies Australia (SSA), is a family-owned business and has kindly offered us this fundraising opportunity, where SSA will give back 15% of the profit, in the form of store credit to purchase more science resources for the school. The virtual shop is open until Friday, August 21 which marks the end of National Science Week for 2020. The shop is also a great opportunity to purchase birthday presents and early Christmas gifts. There are also a couple of products for adult science enthusiasts to consider, all while supporting the Science program at St Raphael's.

  • That the Earth’s oceans are home to many species of mammals, reptiles, fish, birds, and plants, and they all depend on it for their survival.
  • Ways to Protect and care for the future of our oceans.

Below, you will find short, engaging, high quality, scientifically accurate video content to further engage your children in the National Science Week schools theme.

Please see the image below, celebrating the Science Supernova Award Recipients for Term 3 Week 5.

A big congratulations to all students for a wonderful week of science learning!

🐠 Years F-2 :  Week 5, Our Oceans.

Students spent time preparing for National Science Week and learnt all about our oceans. In particular, they explored the threats to our oceans and the small ways we can all contribute to protecting our oceans in the future. Thank you to the wonderful children who submitted their posters to celebrate National Science Week.

✏️ Years 3-6: St Raphael's Kids in COVID survey data.

In week 5 all Year 3-6 students participated in a survey to identify how St Raphael's students were feeling during the COVID-19 lockdown. The data/results were released to the students later in the day and the students were guided on how to represent this data as bar graphs using technology (Google Sheets). Please see samples of the wonderful work the students produced below:
