LET’S STAY CONNECTED AND SPREAD THE BOT JOY!

We all know that things are a bit tricky now, especially staying connected with our friends and loved ones. This week’s Visual Art activity is for the whole school to get involved in to remind one another that, even though we are physically distanced, we still care and celebrate one another’s strengths.

The guy in the photos above is an artist and illustrator named Gary Hirsch from Portland, USA. He began his journey in art as a young boy by sketching the characters that he saw in his dreams which were sometimes a little scary for him. Doing this gave him comfort and somehow made the creatures less troubling for him. A few years later, he started sharing his images and later developed a robot drawing which people complimented him on. So, Gary thought it would be good to give them away to family and friends to compliment them and remind them of the things he appreciated them for. This began a lifetime of drawing what he calls BOTS – tiny robot-like drawings on dominos - to share with others. He has now made and given away over 57,000 Bots and has also painted murals around the world of his vibrant, uplifting creatures.

Gary has publicly invited people to join in with him in spreading the BOT JOY and what better time than now to take up the offer? Each year level’s Google Classroom has instructions for making and sharing Bots. Please take a look, grab some simple drawing and colouring equipment and let someone know that you care. And don’t forget to share your work with our community by posting it on the Padlet! (details provided in Specialist Google Classrooms) .
