Seven Steps Writing Competition

The Seven Steps Writing Competition is being held once again this year and it is an excellent opportunity to showcase the great writing skills your child/ren have acquired. 

 

The Seven Steps to Writing Success combines 7 strategies or steps for effective writing. They are:

  1. Step 1 : Plan for Success
  2. Step 2 : Sizzling Start
  3. Step 3 : Tightening Tension
  4. Step 4 : Dynamic Dialogue
  5. Step 5 : Show, don't tell
  6. Step 6 : Ban the Boring
  7. Step 7 : Exciting Ending

There are 4 categories to enter and win (see attached):

Category 1 : a short story/poem/diary entry on The Astonishing Bicycle

Category 2 : a short story or script for a radio/TV show on Mistaken Identity

Category 3 : a short story and story graph on A Visit to the Past

Category 4 : a comic strip or manga on A Curious Creature.

Competition Details

  • Each category has a challenge, so make sure your child/ren address these to demonstrate their Seven Steps knowledge and increase their chance of winning;
  • Students can enter more than one category;
  • Students can submit joint/co-authored entries;
  • A parent must sign the publishing permission form for the student to be included in the competition;
  • Entries must be submitted to Seven Steps by Monday 24 August, 2020
  • Winners will be notified on Tuesday 15 September 2020

Prizes

There will be one primary winner and a runner-up for each category.  Winners will receive $50 book voucher, runners-up a $25 book voucher.  The school with the greatest number of entries will win a Seven Steps Manual of their choice.  Winners and runners-up may have their work published in future Seven Steps resources.

 

How to Enter

  • An entry form for each category is attached
  • Each fully completed entry form needs to be sent to Seven Steps by Monday 24 August.  Entries can be scanned and emailed to: inspiration@sevenstepswriting.com or posted to : Seven Steps to Writing Success, PO Box 194, Sandringham, Vic., 3191.
