Visual Arts

Here for the Long Haul

So now we know that we are all remote learning and teaching for the remainder of Term 3.

That's a long time to be out of the art room.

Art can give you the sense that what you create stays and lasts, it could capture a moment in time, it doesn't just disappear. It can be seen, shared and given away. Art can bring joy through the use of new skills and exploring concepts.

The restrictions can have so many different impacts on all in our community and we hope that art can bring our students and families together, sharing experiences and expression of ideas.

Some children have sent us messages to say they do not have supplies to complete some tasks. Given the duration for which we will be doing art at home, it would be great if you are able to add some simple supplies to your supermarket shopping list, the better to enhance your child’s learning and ability to participate in lessons and enjoy art.

This photo is from Woolworths in Balwyn.

The glue we recommend is either the Elmer's School Glue, or the UHU craft glue. You can also see packs of coloured pencils and textas. You don't need the large sets, a 12 or 10 pack would do.  Just along from this display in this supermarket is the home office section, and from here you can get a ream of A4 photocopy paper. Or order online and have something delivered.

If you are able, please consider purchasing these items if you don't already have them.

We are exploring ways to make materials for students that use basic home supplies, for example clay with bread and glue.

We understand that everyone’s circumstances are different and we hope that the Visual Art lessons are a positive experience in your child’s week and bring a pleasant distraction from the circumstances in which we all find ourselves.

From the teachers' perspective, we can't say enough about how much we are enjoying seeing the amazing art that is being uploaded to Seesaw and Showbie. I, Mrs H, often find myself grinning like a looney and exclaiming out loud as I work at my kitchen table. I'm pretty sure Mrs T is doing the same! Thank you!!

Artists of the Week

This week's artists of the week come from the same family. Lucas S of FGA and Kimberley S of 4RP collaborated creatively to present their individual works of art together as one! I'm sure you will enjoy the toilet roll octopus frolicking on the Great Barrier Reef inspired by Bronwyn Bancroft!
