CEPS Instructional Model

At CEPS, lessons within our classrooms follow a model of teaching, which for all schools is called an Instructional Model.  Our Instructional Model was developed in consultation with our curriculum teams and is largely based on research from educationalist John Hattie. Hattie’s work focuses on how different teaching methods have an impact on student learning and crucially, which methods have the greatest impact.

One of the key focuses of our Instructional Model is feedback, ensuring students have clarity on the next phase of their learning and also ensuring teachers have knowledge of the effectiveness of the teaching and learning taking place within the classroom. Hattie rates feedback as one of the most impactful teaching effects, based on his meta analysis of over 250 different effects.

While the order of these lesson components may vary from lesson to lesson, they will all be found within the teaching and learning in our classrooms within every lesson.

CEPS is also committed to revising our Instructional Model and continually making changes where research and evidence suggests our practice can improve. Reviewing and developing practices is a key element to our work, as we’re committed to life-long learning and continual growth.
