Middle School

From the Head of Middle School

It was great to see all the students when they returned this week. I heard some great stories about catching “Barra” in Kununurra, trips to Sydney, working on the farm and going to the watch the Fever in Perth. It is important to have that holiday time to slow down and have new experiences. I did a couple of great walks around the Great Southern with friends and family. I particularly enjoyed walking Nancy’s Peak in the Porongurups. It has such unique scenery and the day I was there it was misty and drizzling, which made it a little eerie. But still great fun.

On Monday we remembered our ANZACs. I really appreciated attending the service in town, at our doorstep, with other GSG students and staff. Albany has such a special connection and the significance of the occasion and the stories that are retold are always emotive. They are often very hard to relate to in these modern times. When the bugler plays the Last Post and the Ode it always brings a lump to my throat. The sacrifice that people made both abroad and at home was immense and we should always remember and be thankful. Our sacrifices are minor compared to theirs. Lest We Forget.

Rubik's Cube Challenge Comp

On Wednesday during the Values and Christian Service (VACS) period the Middle School leaders arranged a Rubik’s Cube Challenge competition. Sixteen students, nimble of hand, participated in a knockout style competition. The event was held in the Library and live streamed to the Homeroom classes. There were a few nerves and lots of warm up games. It was great fun and everyone who participated should be proud of their achievements. The final was between Seb Bock (Year Eight) and Matthew Walmsley (Year Eleven), with Matthew just edging out Seb in a time of 46 seconds. Matthew won a big pack of chocolates for his efforts. Thanks to the Middle School leaders for putting it all together.
