Meet the 5/6 Team

Meet our Year 5 and 6 teachers!

We've asked our Year 5 and 6 teachers to answer a few questions so you can get to know them better!

Caitriona Goldsworthy - 5A

What is the best thing about being a teacher at Kismet Park?

I love how friendly our students are. Students open doors for you, they help you carry things and they are kind. I also love the fact that I live way too close to the school so I sort of feel like the school is attached to my home!

Do you have a favourite author/book? Why is it your favourite?

I love reading books that help me become a better teacher. I also love reading picture story books written by Australian Authors. One of my favourites is When the Wind Changed by Ruth Park. It’s an oldie, but a goodie!

What are your hobbies?

I play sport and enjoy exercising. My husband would also say work is my hobby too because I am always doing that… and enjoying it too!

If you could only eat 1 meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

My husband’s spaghetti and meatballs!

If you were a superhero, what powers would you have?

I would have the ability to read teleport. I am always walking way too fast to try and get to places quickly, so this would help me with my busy life!

Curtis Mayall - 5B

What is the best thing about being a teacher at Kismet Park? Being a teacher at Kismet Park means the world to me. Transitioning from being a high school teacher was a tough decision but was the right decision because now, I have gotten to meet a fantastic group of teachers, and an even more fantastic cohort of students. Kismet Park has now become my second family a place where I can continue to learn, teach, and grow as a human being.

Do you have a favourite author/book? Why is it your favourite? My favourite author is Paul Jennings because he is an Australian author that writes very funny and entertaining short stories. These stories have also been adapted into the TV series 'Round the Twist', which I loved when I was growing up!

What are your hobbies? When I am not teaching at Kismet Park, I like to go to weekly trivia nights with my friends, go on long bikes rides into the city and of course, having a coffee and my local cafe. I also sometimes play video-games when I have some spare time!

If you could only eat 1 meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? If I could only eat one meal for the rest of my life, I would definitely choose pizza because you can put many different toppings on it so it will never get boring.

If you were a superhero, what powers would you have?

If I were a superhero, I would have the power of super strength and immortality so that I could lift up anything I wanted and never ever pass away.

Lisa Taylor-Jones - 5C

What is the best thing about being a teacher at Kismet Park? The best thing about being a teacher at Kismet Park is the kids. The love for learning they have.

Do you have a favourite author/book? Why is it your favourite?

Michael Morpurgo and how his writing hooks the readers in with the use of figurative language, where he draws you into each scene/setting. This allows you as the reader to become a participant.

What are your hobbies?

Love to take photographs of natural and manmade environments.

If you could only eat 1 meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

That is way too easy! Chocolate!

If you were a superhero, what powers would you have?

I would be Wonder Woman as she has super strength, speed and agility. I would like to fly,  so I can get to places quicker!

David Bigger - 6A

What is the best thing about being a teacher at Kismet Park? The thing I love most about being a teacher at Kismet is being able to see the ‘a-ha’ moment, where students understand a concept for the first time.

Do you have a favourite author/book? Why is it your favourite? My favourite book is Max Gawn’s Captains Diary from the 2021 season. It my favourite because it is honest, funny in parts and only gets better and better as you get to the last couple of chapters…

What are your hobbies? I love nothing more than spending time with my daughter Nora and watching sport (mainly football, baseball, basketball, soccer, cricket, ultimate frisbee, cornhole…)

If you could only eat 1 meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Gotta be a spaghetti marinara with some chili oil.

If you were a superhero, what powers would you have? Time travel would be the ultimate power. Go back in time to meet people or relive moments over and over again.

Taylah Rees - 6B

What is the best thing about being a teacher at Kismet Park?

The best thing about being a teacher at Kismet Park is the welcoming nature of everybody in the school community. As a new teacher to the school, I instantly felt accepted and supported at KPPS, by students, families, and fellow staff. It is such a wonderful and vibrant learning community, that I am very lucky to be a part of!

Do you have a favourite author/book? Why is it your favourite?

One of my favourite books would have to be Able, written by Dylan Alcott. It is one of my favourites because Dylan shares so much about his life with a disability, and shows the audience that truly, anything is possible if you are dedicated, resilient, and determined.

What are your hobbies?

Believe it or not, outside of teaching at KPPS, I am also a competitive line dancer. I have been line dancing now for 14 years and have been able to travel all over the world competing. My team and I recently returned from dancing at the Australian Country Dance Championships in Tamworth.

If you could only eat 1 meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A Thai feast - curry puffs, roti bread, coconut rice, green chicken curry, and you can't forget the peanut sauce.

If you were a superhero, what powers would you have?

I'm going to have to go with Teleportation, so then I can travel the world without having to sit on the plane for so long.

Nick Linton - 6C

The school productions and fetes. Kismet has a fantastic local community and when we get together for whole school events it always results in a positive experience.

Do you have a favourite author/book? Why is it your favourite?

I'm normally a big fan of fantasy and science fiction, but I recently read "Green Lights" by Matthew Mcconaughey and really enjoyed his life story.

What are your hobbies?

I love music, performing in theatre, a good board game and cooking.

If you could only eat 1 meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Lasagne

If you were a superhero, what powers would you have?

Super speed, Imagine not having to pay for petrol!
