A resource from children to parents about time during quarantine:

One of our teacher’s came across the attached resource this week and thought it would be good to share with everyone. The resource paints a clear picture of what our children are feeling about isolation and helps us to take a peek into the minds of others to gain perspective of our own children’s thoughts. Please take a read when you can. It is certainly a reminder of what matters most to our children.

Sending in your ‘Mother’s Day’ Pictures for This Week’s Broadcast

It was again fantastic to see lots of photos come in from around the community last week. From all feedback received, we know that this part of the broadcast is well-received by our community as it supports connection to others during this time of isolation.

This week, we thought that it was obvious for families to share their experiences of Mother’s Day by sending in one photo of how you as a family said thank you to all of our wonderful mums out there. It could be a photo of mum having breakfast with everyone, or sitting around the fire having a cup of tea. Whatever your experience, we’d love to share it this week.

Remote Learning Focus: Healthy Mind

Our remote learning cards are designed to support discussion and expectation development at home as we progress through the phases of remote learning. This week’s focus is on keeping a ‘Healthy Body.

As we are all well-aware, maintaining a healthy body during this time, gives us the best chance of sustaining good wellbeing and mental health as well.

Please take the time to read over some of this week’s resources and we hope that they will be able to support you as a family in keeping fit and healthy.

Be a Soapy Hero

Teaching good hand hygiene is highly important, particularly during a pandemic. The Better Health Channel has lots of resources around this and other areas to ensure healthy habits are sustained. If you’re like many of our households, you have printed out the ‘Soapy Hero Training Steps’ and have this displayed in the toilet and bathroom.

eatforhealth.gov.au has created a brochure on ‘Healthy Eating for Children’ to support the education of our children around healthy eating choices. Please take a look and talk to your child about the brochure and the informed choices that they can make to keep their bodies healthy.

Smiling Mind is a program that we use at school to teach our children about mindfulness and positive mental health habits. By working through this with your child, you too may find some inner peace during this time.A range of engaging, interesting and educative physical activity resources have been collated for teachers, parents and students. These resources aim to support students to stay active, connected to sport and involved in physical education whilst they are at home. Foodbank Deliveries Available

The events that have occurred as part of the COVID-19 have impacted us all. We are aware that many families find themselves in a changed financial position as a result of loss of work or reduced hours, that may be struggling.

Ballarat Foundation has partnered with Ballarat Community Health and the City of Ballarat to arrange Foodbank deliveries, (non-perishable and toiletry items) delivered to Ballarat on a fortnightly basis. The first delivery arrived on May 7 and went to support international students at Fed Uni.

Ballarat Foundation would like to offer this initiative to our school for families that could benefit from a food hamper. If this is something that your family could benefit from during this time, please email Scott (scott.mcglynn@education.vic.gov.au). Please rest assured we do not pass on family details and will keep your information in confidence.
