Primary Learning
5/6 Class
It is hard to believe that term two has come to an end already! All of the staff are so proud of the efforts and achievements of the 5/6 class this year. We have done many things that were new to the students and they have really taken them up with gusto!
English
We are continuing our talking & listening, reading and writing focus on R.J. Palacio's 'Wonder'. We are about half-way through the book and we have explored character reflections, diary entries, emotive language, aspects of empathy and drama exercises all involved with this fantastic book. We really cannot wait to continue it in term 3.
Maths
We have explored area and perimeter in depth over the past few weeks. Looking at formulas and processes involved in problem-solving, and also seeing how it works in real life through the size of the classroom, fencing around paddocks on farms and how stadiums and football fields are measured. As always, times tables and number knowledge are the building blocks of all mathematics. Any extra practice of these at home will help the children succeed!
Creative Arts
We continue to explore 'Precepts' from our 'Wonder' book, looking at caricatures and words of advice to live by in creating artworks using shape and colour with pencils/textas/highlighters and paints.
We have begun learning new songs on guitar thanks to our generous donation of sixteen classical guitars from RuralAid. The first song we're learning in Knockin' On Heaven's Door, which uses the chords of 'G Major', 'D Major', 'A minor 7' and 'C Major'. The students have picked it up really well. We will continue to work hard at reading chord diagrams! We also visited Burrowa House to sing two songs to the residents: 'Waves - Dean Lewis' and 'All of Me - John Legend'. We hope to make this a regular visit from term 3 onwards.
History
Mrs Hoy has been busily teaching the kids about Indigenous Australian History and set a research task about an Indigenous Australian that has made an impact on the way of life in Australia. We have seen them in process, and they look fantastic!
'Motion as Medicine' Shining Star
'Motion as Medicine' , provide clinical exercise physiology services to rural areas. Tyler Dennett has been making outstanding progress under this program and was chosen to be their shining star of the week. He has been focusing on specific exercises and movements to assist with his intellectual and developmental disability. His School Learning Support Officer, Mrs Keighley has been instrumental in ensuring Tyler is adherent to his program at school. Well done Tyler for being star of the week and for your amazing progress. Congratulations to Tyler's fantastic support team for your work and dedication.

Kindergarten
Term 2 has been a big term for Kindergarten. The whole class has settled and much progress has been made with our learning.
Literacy
Kindergarten have had a big focus on writing during this term and the children have been working very hard at mastering writing a sentence independently. All the practice at home with homework words and during literacy rotations has paid off. We have had some great sentences written, especially about spiders and ants as we have looked at information texts over the last two weeks.
Kindergarten's reading has really taken off and it is fantastic to see students keen to come to the engine room and read increasingly complex books. Children love the opportunity to practice their reading at home and in class. Our camping corner is a favourite place to sit by the fire and read or inside the tent with a torch.
Mathematics
We have some unbelievable mathematicians in kindergarten and our counting skills are growing every week. We have mastered those tricky teen numbers! Recently we have learnt about capacity and hefted objects to decide which is heavier. Kindergarten are now pattern champions and can make and continue patterns. Fraction are also no problem for us we can halve and quarter ensuring the pieces are even.
Science
Science this term has been fun and focused around how objects move and all children displayed a wonderful insight when we conducted our ramp experiment.
Sport
A big thank you to Mrs Harpley and Greg who were kind enough to take us for gymnastics last Friday, Kindergarten had a ball!
Lastly congratulations to all of the Kindergarten students, they have put in a massive effort this term. They truly deserve a holiday.
Happy and safe holidays to all of our students and families at BCS!

Yr 1 Flute lessons
Year 1 has been listening to a variety of different instruments in Music this term. Last week they were excited to try playing a flute for themselves. It was a challenge for the little lungs but everyone had a turn and it was a great lesson.

SRC Snippets
Kindergarten - Year 6 SRC have been busy discussing ideas for the infants and primary to participate in, as well as suggestions for equipment needed for our students. Some of the suggestions have been: a mufti day, Crazy Hair Day, more footballs and a pump, football posts, soccer goals, more shade in the playground, a talent quest and more play equipment for primary for example a slippery dip.
Mrs Corkhill is investigating some of the equipment requests, so watch this space!
After some in depth discussion we have decided that we will have a mufti day on the final day of the term, Friday 5th July. Students can wear anything they like as there is no theme. They must wear closed in shoes as some classes with have sport and cooking.
