School Sport Update
Year 7 and 8 students are busily preparing for the start to their weekly sports competitions, which begins on the 25th and 28th of February against McKinnon Secondary School. Students have been given the choice of sports from Volleyball, Tennis and Softball/ Baseball.
Due to Term 1 being such a short term, and with the addition of Beaumaris in our division, bringing the number of teams to 8, the format of weekly sport this term has changed. Instead of playing every school each term, as we have previously, the 8 schools have been divided into two pools of 4, based on proximity. We have been placed in pool ‘B’ alongside McKinnon, Bentleigh and Brighton. Following the three pool games, a final will then be played between the winner of pool A and the winner of pool B to find the Kingston champion to represent the division at regionals.
Another change this year sees our Year 9 and 10 students in Sports Academy become coaches, referees and mentors for our Year 7 and 8 students and travelling with the team for both home and away games, supporting and assisting where possible. Thank you to these students as we look forward to seeing our younger students excel with this extra help and guidance.
Good luck to all teams for your upcoming games!
Our Year 9-12 students also have their own sporting competitions rapidly approaching with the Intermediate Round Robin due to take place on March 19, and Senior Round Robin on March 23. Sports being offered this term for Intermediates are Volleyball, Tennis and Softball/ Baseball, with seniors also getting the choice of an additional option of Basketball and Futsal. Trials and training for these teams have either just taken place, or occurring shortly. Please keep an eye on Compass Newsfeed for more information from your coaches.
Term 1 is a big one for all with the Swimming Carnival having just taken place and Athletics coming up on the last Thursday of this term. If you have any questions or concerns about anything sport-related, please come see Mr. Robertson in the Junior School Office.

House Swimming Carnival
On Monday, 17th August, Westall Secondary College participated in the annual whole school House Swimming Carnival. Once again, it was a fantastic day with students participating in a range of swimming and novelty events. Glad to see students getting involved as much as they could and earning the maximum amount of points for their house.
Gordon house came in at 4th place. Two strong performances from Mohamed Asem and Thomas Le, who provided a massive 47% of Gordon’s total points. Gordon has a few impressive individual performances, but, needs a few more participants to put down a bigger challenge.
Lawson house came 3rd, proving to be quite the opponent in the Senior School, achieving more points than any other house. This effort could not be sustained as they dropped off in the remaining events. House Captain, Jibriel Dzulazwan, led the charge with a very strong performance from Ngan Trinh. Even School Captain, Baran Uysal, tried his hardest in a couple events. Hopefully, these performances inspire the other year levels in the other sports carnivals that are coming up.
Dennis house came 2nd. Dennis has always been a strong competitor in the swimming carnival and this year was no different. From a good participation rate across all year levels, to great individual efforts from the likes of Cyrus Khademi and Akhilesh Dadwal. Dennis excelled tremendously through the relay and novelty event, which in turn earned them their 2nd place title.
Paterson house was the winner in 1st place. It was clear from the 1st race it was clear that Paterson house had both the participation and the skills to win the swimming carnival. Spectacular performances in the Junior School as Emily Duncan and Jessica Whiting, not only won all of their races, but managed to set some new records on the way. Ethan Boldizs and Bravmon Wong proved to be a deadly duo in the under 14 races, while Kenneth Kuy and Lipanha Khorn terrorised the Senior School with their efforts.
It was a fantastic day and congratulations to all students and staff who participated!
