Middle School Report

Message from the Director of Learning

- Mr. Tom Tahos

A warm welcome to Year 9 students, who join us in the Middle School this year. We have had a great start to the school year, which is a real credit to our students, families and staff!

The Middle School Coordinators for 2020 are:

Year 9:  Ms Helen Ifandis

Year 10:  Ms Lee Read

If you have any questions regarding your child or any aspect of Year 9 or Year 10, please contact the appropriate year level coordinator or me.

Expectations

As Middle School students, please be aware of the following expectations:

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Wearing correct school uniform.
  • Attending classes with the required equipment.
  • Completing all school and homework tasks.
  • Working within the Westall Way values and framework.
  • Leaving mobile phones in the locker during school.
  • Communicating appropriately with one another.

Cyber Safety

We remind you the importance of:

  • Creating strong passwords and never sharing passwords - “A real friend would never ask for your password”.
  • Turning off location finders on your device.
  • When creating an email account/name, never use inappropriate language.
  • Not posting inappropriate photographs.
  • Anything posted online can only be hidden, never deleted.
  • Avoiding sharing private information, such as an address, phone number, birth date, etc.
  • Posting online anything relating to other people without their consent.

Being kind to one another is the way to be and if something negative does ever happen to you, your family or a friend, the best thing is to TALK ABOUT IT to your family or your teachers, and SCREEN SAVE the negative communications.

Be safe online everyone.

i-Read Program

During Period 4 every day (except Wednesdays), Middle School students are involved in the i-Read program, where students read a book of their choice for 15 minutes and take a couple of minutes to summarise what they have read, to a peer. Students are urged to bring school appropriate reading material.

Work Experience Program

Year 10 students completed their safe@work online training and assessment module during a workshop last week. The safe@work module provides valuable information, and training, around Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S).  A person’s safety while at work is the most important element in having a productive work environment.

Students will be involved in the ‘Work Experience Program’ from Monday 15th June until Friday 19th June (Week 10, Term 2).

Students must complete and return the following important documents to Miss Geraldine by Friday 20th March or earlier:

  • The safe@work General Module
  • The ‘Work Experience Arrangement Form’
  • The safe@work Industry Specific Module - the industry module that you will need to complete will be shared with you once you return the ‘Work Experience Arrangement Form’.
