From our Principal

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,
Spring has finally sprung and footy finals are in the air. It is great to finally be able to open up doors and windows and let in light and the fresh spring air. It gives both staff and students a little spring in their step (pardon the pun), fuelled no doubt by the knowledge that the term holiday break being just around the corner.
Campus Name Change
For some time now the college has been working towards cementing the campus names for the future. Some, or even many, may know that St. Peter’s College currently has two campuses with a third campus beginning construction in the next couple of years. As such, the time is now to make the required alterations to our campus names. From 2019 the Campuses will be known as:
- St. Peter’s College – Cranbourne Campus formerly known as the West Campus
- St. Peter’s College – Clyde North Campus formerly known as the East Campus
- St. Peter’s College – Clyde Campus
The rationale around this decision includes:
- Aligning with the geographic location of each campus ensuring ease of identification
- Aligns with the Parish names of each location
It will take some getting used to but soon each new name will become as familiar as the current situation.
New Facilities close to our Clyde North Campus
This week, I was accompanied by Mrs Banda and three of our school leaders, to the launch by the State Minister of Sport: John Uren and the Mayor of the City of Casey, Geoff Ablett of the development of sports facilities directly across the road from the Clyde North Campus on Heather Grove. Two cricket ovals and three soccer pitches are expected to be constructed over the next 18 months providing St. Peter’s College with an exciting opportunity to share in the utilisation of these community-based facilities.
VRQA
Each four year period St. Peter’s College is required to undergo an audit to ensure we meet the minimum requirements to be registered to operate as a secondary college. The audit occurred this week and I am happy to report we exceeded the minimum requirements. The auditors commented in particular, as they moved in and out of classes, how engaged students were in their learning. It was inspiring to hear of the pride students had in their school and how passionately they spoke of the manner in which they learn. It was humbling also to witness the collective efforts of the vast number of staff, leadership team, teaching staff and support staff as they continually strive to achieve best practice in their daily work. Congratulations is extended to all who were engaged in the process.
Year 12 Trial exams
These will be occurring over the holiday break for all students who are studying a Unit 3/4. This program enables yet another opportunity for students to grow in their knowledge base, under the same exam conditions as they will experience in just a few short weeks. The exams, held on student’s respective campus are compulsory, such is the importance of this occasion.
Parent Teacher Interviews
I look forward to catching up with many parents next Thursday and Friday during Parent Teacher Interviews. I have found the most rewarding interviews are those where the staff member and the student are engaged in most of the talking. As a parent in this circumstance I can witness the dialogue and hear of the progress of my child including where areas of improvement can be found.
Enjoy the week ahead.
