Clean up Australia Day
This year, after a brief hiatus, the College was involved in the local community Clean Up Australia Day. On Friday 28th February, eight students from years 7 to 12 volunteered their time to clean up the area around the Wagga Wagga Beach. This was an environmental focus area for the Wagga Wagga Council. The students worked hard and left the area cleaner and safer.
We would also like to remind each student to use the correct bins when disposing of their waste at the College. The red lid is for general rubbish and the yellow lid is for recycling. Come and ask us if you are not sure!
Please try to reduce waste by keeping cling wrap and single-use packaging out of lunchboxes and opt for reusable containers instead.

Activities Week - Games Session Winner
The Games Session that ran during activities week 2019 saw students playing video and card games for three days straight. There were several types of consoles, handheld devices, big screen brawls, some old-school Minecraft LAN parties, and even a dedicated VR set-up for students to experience some immersive programs. There was a full day of cards, as students opened a box each of the latest Magic: The Gathering set, created decks, and duelled in a competitive tournament. Throughout the activities, students were able to garner points; through setting up their own competitions, through winning games, through displays of sportsmanship, and through good teamwork. The student with the most points at the end of the 3rd day was determined to be the Gaming Master.
They received the newly created Dr Willsher Gaming Goblet, a trophy named after the college’s former chaplain, the late Dr David Willsher, who was himself an avid gamer and the previous organiser of the Gamecraft Activities week program. The inaugural winner and worthy recipient for the goblet in 2019 was Miles Martin, who pipped first place thanks largely to his exceptional skill at Smash Bros and Mario Party.

Students Qualify for the Australian Track and Field Championships
Four students from our College have qualified for the Australian Track and Field Championships and will be fulfilling their dreams in just a few weeks as they compete for national titles in Sydney.
Congratulations to the following students on their qualification;
Leyla Liakatos (Year 12) who has qualified for the U18s 800m.
Daniel Okerenyang (Year 7) who has qualified for the U14s triple jump.
Gerard Okerenyang (Year 10) who has qualified for the U17s hammer throw, shot put and discus.
Godfrey Okerenyang (Year12) who has qualified for the U20s 100m and relay.
In December, Godfrey underwent hamstring surgery after he ruptured his semitendinosus competing in the U18s All Australian Schools competition.
"My last assessment completed in Melbourne recently showed that I was 98% recovered. By next week, I will know if I am fit to compete at the Nationals," Godfrey said.
"I have mainly been focusing on strength training, so I hope I am right to run, as I would like to make it through to the World Championships in July in Nairobi," he said.
Leyla has returned to running after a break of nearly 12 months.
Daniel, Gerard, Godfrey and Leyla - we are all super proud of your achievements. The Riverina Anglican College wishes you all the best of luck!
