SINGAPORE DELEGATION
On Thursday 18 May, the Minister of Education from the Singapore Government, Mr NG Chee Meng, along with seven other key personnel visited McKinnon to observe our PE and Outdoor Education program and the strong sense of wellbeing and belonging experienced by our students.
It is a privilege to host visitors like this and in fact to learn so much from sharing.
They were most impressed by the culture that is evident at McKinnon. Sometimes we who belong here take it for granted, but the excellent rapport that is established between staff, students and parents is exceptional and I thank you!
CHINESE DELEGATION
On Tuesday 23 May we hosted a delegation of ten people including School Principals and other senior staff from Zhejiang Province in China.
The visit is to enable participants to gain first-hand experience of Australian schools and educational approaches and to reflect on and make connections to issues in the Chinese educational context.
We work in partnership with Monash University on these visits.
35 YEARS TEACHING SERVICE
A 35 year ceremony was held this week for Victorian educators and Mr Bill Manolas was recognised for his service to education.
I congratulate Mr Manolas for the exceptional contribution he has made to education in the state of Victoria, more importantly his significant contribution at McKinnon.
LANGUAGE PERFECT
Another competition for McKinnon and one where many staff and students participate. Language Perfect is the biggest language learning competition in the world.
Students and staff have access to an online program called 'Language Perfect', which allows them to learn up to 18 different languages.
During the 10 days of the championships, students earn points for themselves as well as for their school. Last year McKinnon was placed 1st – an exceptional achievement!
At the time of writing this - we are ranked number 2 in the world!
Thank you to Mr Kamener and Ms Fowler for organising this exciting opportunity for our community and for everyone embracing the fun!
UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS
All McKinnon students are required to wear their uniform correctly and with pride. In Term 2 students are required to wear the winter uniform and to wear the College Blazer to and from school. We need all parents support to ensure this school policy is implemented effectively and consistently.
I thank you for your support.
