Class of 2019 - Year 12 Final Assembly

Our Class of 2019 Year 12 students had their Final Assembly last week (23/10) with staff, families and the wider student cohort all in attendance to share in this special occasion.

A lot of fun was had by all with our Year 12 students dressed in costume on the day.  Our College Captains (Issy Jones and Jasmine Sweeney) spoke incredibly well about their learning experiences at Wheelers Hill Secondary College, while our College Vice Captains (Ben Segal, Kyle Gwynne) announced some very special 'teacher awards' for our 2019 Year 12 teachers.

We thank all of our Year 12 teachers this year, and staff generally, for their efforts in teaching and caring for our Year 12 students.  We wish our Year 12 students all the very best with their exams and in to the future.

Student Leadership 2020

We have embarked on a rigorous process to fill our Student Leadership positions for next year.  Our student leaders play a vital role within the College role modelling expected behaviours to a high standard, together with providing important leadership and support in key areas within the school.

We congratulate the following students on their appointments for 2020:

Arts and Technology Show

Creativity is one of our key values at the College.  It is important for all of our students to have the opportunity to demonstrate Creativity in their work, and the Visual Arts and Technology Domains support our students in this aspect of their learning.

The 2019 Arts and Technology Show has been a  real showcase of the creative talents of our students from across all year levels.  It has been so pleasing to see staff and families support our students through the week  by getting along to view the many student exhibits as part of the Show.

Congratulations to all involved.  The Opening Night (28/10) together with the whole show itself was a tremendous success.  We thank Holly Jepson (Visual Arts Domain Leader) and her team for all of their hard work in putting together what was a wonderful event.

As Principal, I have the privilege of awarding The Principal's Award as part of the Show.  There were so many high quality pieces of work to choose from but in the end I have chosen a piece that I think is befitting of such an award. The piece titled, 'Which Person Do You Want To Be?,' was inspired by the Anime artist 'Hirohiko Araki', and was created by Samuel Shi of Year 9, and it is an outstanding piece of art work.  Congratulations Samuel!

Sports Awards Night

Sport is one of our key areas at the College and it was wonderful to see so many of our students recognised for their efforts and achievements this year at the 2019 Sports Awards Night last week (21/10).  We had a bumper crowd in attendance taking in what was a very professional and well run event in our recently named Bunjil Centre.

We know that sport provides opportunities for healthy participation and competition, yet it also develops important characteristics and attributes such as leadership, team work, communication skills, resilience, courage, responsibility and confidence.  We congratulate all of our students on their Sports Awards in 2019.

Not only did we have students receive many Awards on the night, but we had a number of students involved in compering the event and they are also to be commended for their efforts.

We thank everyone involved in what was a real celebration of everything Sport at the College.  We especially acknowledge the hard work and leadership of Sally Pryde and Kerrie Lay, who were both instrumental in making the night such a success.  Please read on in this Newsletter for further details of our 2019 Sports Awards Night.

VCE Performing Arts Showcase

Another key area of our College of course is the Performing Arts and some of our VCE students had their chance to shine as part of the VCE Performing Arts Showcase last night (31/10).

The audience was treated to some quality performances on the night and we congratulate our students on their participation.

Exam Period

The Exam Period has begun in earnest with our Year 12 students sitting the English Exam on Wednesday (30/10) this week .  The Year 12 Exam Period concludes on Wednesday 20th November.

Our Year 11, 10 and 9 students will begin their Exam Periods over the coming weeks, and we wish them well.  Following the Exam Periods, students in each of these year levels will be involved in Transition Programs allowing them to get a sense of what the learning can be like for the year ahead.

Value of the Week - Creativity

The 2019 Arts and Technology Show demonstrated the Creativity of so many of our students.  We congratulate our students for exhibiting their work, together with the many student award winners from this wonderful event.

And finally.......

We once again congratulate our Year 12s for their fine contribution to our College.   Families of Year 12 students are reminded of the Valedictory Dinner on Tuesday 19th  November (7 to 11:00pm) at Merrimu Receptions in Chadstone,
