Sydenham Movember fundraiser
Once again, staff and students at Sydenham have sacrificed their time, and their upper lips, to raise Money for Movember - an international initiative supporting men's health and well-being. Copperfield College raised nearly $300 this year, and since 2014 the college has raised over $1700. Well done to the Mo Bros and Mo Sistas and the SRC for your participation in another successful and Motivational show of support. And a HUGE thank you to all those staff and students for their generous donations.

Media
The Oscars came to Copperfield! Year 9 Media students this semester have explored and responded to a variety of media texts and created and made short films in a genre and style of their choosing.
In order to celebrate the achievements of the talented filmmakers, we held in class screenings, aka Oscars ceremonies. Students rated each film and identified the best film, in addition the best editor, actor and sound technician.
The results for Ms Huseyin’s year 9B class were: Best Film was Kayla Ribarovska, Best Actor was Andrej Kralev, Best Editing was Jayden Crisp, Best Sound was Andrei Caranay.
The results for Ms Huseyin’s year 9K class were: Best Film was Charlize Magtanum, Best Actor was Charlize Magtanum, Best Editing was Michael Ly, Best Sound was Darren Alejandrino.
All students put in a fantastic effort in order to complete great films, working collaboratively in groups, and/or independently. Congratulations to all and we look forward to work that continues to grow in style, quality and depth.

Science Solar Car Challenge
Student reflections
We were given the challenge to design and construct a solar car. We then got to race other groups. It was loads of fun. Our car did not drive straight. It did win the “Donut Contest”. It was nice to work with my friends.
James
The solar car challenge was fun and exciting. Making the actual car was challenging. The wires were hard to connect. Our group customised our car with drawings. We made our car stand out and named it “Munchkin mobile”. We tested ours a lot, and each time there was something wrong. On first attempt, our car only went 30cm. The second time the car went to 1m. By the 3rd time, our car was able to down the entire track. We came 2nd in the challenge. In the end end, the car exceeded our expectations and went faster than we had thought.
Erin
Our class participated in the Solar car Challenge. It was a fun activity based on planning, constructing and then racing. We learnt about circuits and alternative energies. The winners of the challenge had the most exposure to sunlight.
Harrison
In science we made a solar car using wires, sticky tape, wheels, axles, a motor, and a solar panel. After we constructed the car, we tested our design. Our car went in different directions and then stopped. It took us a really long time to discover what we did wrong. Eventually our car was able to move. We did not win the challenge but it was a very fun activity.

Year 8 was a really good year because my marks improved a lot. I also learnt so much this year. I now know what I want to do with my future.

It was a great journey throughout the year. I got to participate in activities and excursions that I had never done before. The topics were very interesting. I learnt more about the “Black Death” and different types of rocks: Sedimentary, Igneous and metaphoric”.

This class has made many memories, even though our class would tend to get in trouble, they are AWESOME. Learning wise, I feel like I improved really well in all subjects. I really tried to better my education. Year 8 was actually a really good year and I will miss it.
Madison
My year 8 journey consisted of lots of ups and downs. My biggest achievement that I am most proud of was achieving 83% on my science CAT.
