My Migrant Story

Over the past few weeks, the students in the Year 9 classes have been busy researching and writing about their families history and migration stories to Australia. They put together a wide range of different projects, from suitcases to recipe books and some even made short movies. Most of the students included artefacts such as dolls, teddy bears and even clothing which were dearly loved by their descendants and ancestors.

On Wednesday 18 April,  the Middle School Classrooms were full of students displaying their Migrant Story projects. Everyone’s friends and families came to see them, with some students and teachers even dressing up as their family members.

This project brought light to many untold stories of students grandparents, parents and even themselves who migrated to Australia from different countries all around the world. As students we got the opportunity to learn about our own history and how we ended up living in Australia and how our families lives were established. This project was a great way to connect with our past descendants and learn about their past while also learning about our classmates history as well.

Overall the evening was a big success, as the students were finally able to show off the massive amount of effort that they all put into these projects. Everyone had a lot of fun researching about their family members and we all learnt something new.

Year 11 Food Studies Incursion

On the first day of term, Year 11s Food Studies students had an incursion about the contemporary use of Indigenous Australian ingredients. They were able to learn about how ingredients such as lemon myrtle, wattle seed, salt bush and mountain pepper can be incorporated into foods they already make as well as being able to smell and taste some of the foods.

World Challenge

Travel insurance is incredibly important so please ensure your daughter has this prior to departure. Please read the PDS carefully as an emergency helicopter trip off the Mt Everest trek may cost you over $3000 if not covered. To assist your daughter acclimatising to altitude whilst trekking, she must have a prescription for Diamox and take this medication daily whilst above 3000 m.

Hint #10:  With winter approaching, it would be a great idea to check out Aldi for their great winter clothing layers and ski gloves.
