Whilst our teachers do an excellent job of differentiating for all learning needs in the classroom we do also offer several withdrawal opportunities for support and extension of students and I thought I would take the opportunity to explain some of them in this newsletter issue.
Our ‘Step-Up team’ offer Macqlit and Minilit which are small group evidence-based programs to support students who need assistance to make growth in Literacy (specifically reading). This year we are also fortunate to have access to the DET Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI) which for us, funds small group tutoring for students who need support making growth in Writing.
In Grades 3-6, we offer students who are advanced in mathematics a chance to be part of the Maths Extension program. We use the APSO Maths Games and Maths Olympiad to drive this extension with the support of expert staff member Martina Medica and our teams are extremely successful. We are also proud to have a high number of students chosen each term for the DET Victorian High Achievers program which is a small group weekly online class.
Shaun McClare and I have been really relishing the privilege of conducting school tours lately and the best part is we get to spend talking about our favourite topic: Kalinda! Attending a tour during school hours is the very best way to find out whether a school is going to really suit your child and I always urge prospective parents to go with their 'gut instinct'. If when you walk through the door you have a sense that your child will be supported to thrive, like they will feel like they belong and like their individual strengths will be nurtured then it is definitely the school for you and your family. The reason I love doing tours so much is the opportunity to show the very best of our school and how we specifically do an excellent job at these things. Not only that, but it is also really exciting at the moment to talk about our new programs, facilities and plans! If you or someone you know is looking for a school for their child please pass on details of our tours to them. Bookings can be made via TryBooking.
Take care Kalinda, you mean a lot to me.
