Principals Report

Every day Matters

Welcome

It is a pleasure and a privilege as Principal to welcome the Homestead community back for another year at Homestead Senior Secondary College.

I would like to extend my extra warm welcome to our new students. It is always a challenge to join a new school but may I say, our Year 10 students in particular have made such a positive impact on the atmosphere at Homestead already. I am enjoying getting to know them throughout the breaks especially.

Also a warm welcome to all our new staff. This year we continued to grow and I am so pleased with our recruitment. Our new staff include:

  • Lauren, our learning specialist and English teacher
  • Elise, English teacher and Head of English
  • Patricia, English and legal studies teacher and Head of Humanities
  • Alison, our student tutor
  • Conor, History and Business management teacher
  • John, IT teacher and Head of Arts/technology
  • Cyvonne, VCD teacher
  • Isabella, Math teacher
  • Neena, front office and finance manager
  • Zalfa, English and Humanities teacher
  • Michel, Instrumental Music

Welcome back Emma back from maternity leave. Emma is our Mental Health Practitioner and qualified Psychologist, who is ready to support our students on Mondays and Tuesdays.

As we get into this new term, I wanted to express how impressed I am with the start we have had.

The behaviour of students has been exceptional, both social and academic, with everyone showing a high level of respect and consideration for others. I am also thrilled to see the high standards of uniform being upheld, which reflects the pride you have in our school.

College Captains

The process of appointment of our College Captains concluded in term 4 last year. It is with great excitement and pride that I announce our College Captains for 2023, Tia Faletolu and Emily Lam.

College captains play a significant role in supporting positive culture in a school, especially in a senior setting.

The captains meet with myself each fortnight to discuss what is important to students, student lead projects and general student leadership skills.

I am looking forward to working with our captains to continue to develop our school culture together.

Please read their individual introductions on the next page.

School Council

School council plays a profound role in supporting the college to adhere to DET guidelines, particularly around finances and Child Safety law. It also provides the opportunity for the college to gain vital feedback to support a positive culture for our whole community. Our AGM is on March 22 at 6pm in the conference room, community members are welcome to attend.

Very soon, I will be announcing the process to nominate for, and subsequent elections for vacancies on the school council. We have one vacancy in the parent category and two in the student category. Positions are for two years.

I strongly encourage anyone who is interested to nominate themselves and join the enthusiastic and supportive parent team we already have.

2022 Yearbook

After spending the first two years of Homesteads existence in a revolving door of lockdowns, it is fantastic to finally be able to publish our very first year book. I hope that you enjoy reading this, as I have.

In conclusion, I am so proud to be a part of this school community, and I look forward to the amazing journey we will embark on together this year. Let’s continue to strive for excellence in all that we do, and to live our lives with purpose and meaning.

Thank you
