Reminders
Time Capsule Homework Presentations – we have been loving listening to everyone present their time capsules, it is expected that each student present theirs this term.
Diaries – are expected at school every day, students are to write their homework in their diaries each night. It is expected that they are reading every night, and practising their spelling words a couple of times per week. They can also be recording any additional homework they do.
Reading: In grade 6, students are encouraged to read for at least 20 -30 minutes per day. We would love to see students reading chapter books rather than graphic novels, as this will support their development and understanding of sentence structures, vocabulary and paragraphing. We encourage that students read varying genres and a mix of fiction and non-fiction texts, and practise reading both independently and aloud to an adult to improve their fluency.
Ocean Awareness
Our students have been enjoying themselves at the River and the Beach over the past three weeks. They have learnt about how to be safe at the beach and the river.
They know what to look out for when they get to the water, how to identify where they are, what dangers to look out for, and how to know if it is safe to swim.
The practiced paddling on a board, swimming in a current, what to do if they are caught in a rip and how to signal for help if in trouble.
