Middle School News

What a fabulous fortnight we have had at Sacred Heart. Can you believe we are already halfway through Term 1!

               Grade 3's

Literacy

In writing we have been working on expanding our sentences, by adding in when, how and where, in an effort to add more detail and imagery for the reader. NAPLAN has also been a big focus during our Literacy blocks focusing on writing, reading and language conventions.

Maths

The grade threes have continued to show off their amazing maths skills. We have been focusing on the addition and subtraction component of patterns and algebra, whereby students are developing their ability to solve equations that require carrying and borrowing. Students have loved using their mental maths books at the beginning of each maths session, exploring lots of different mathematical concepts.

Respectful Relationships

What do emotions look like?

The students have looked at the types of events and situations that are associated with positive, negative, comfortable and uncomfortable emotions. Students blew us away with their ability to identify and unpack these categories. A popular 'positive' event was being with their pets, while they identified a negative event as fighting with their siblings or visiting the dentist.

                     Grade 4's

Some lovely students have written this weeks newsletter explaining all of the amazing activities we have been doing in and outside of the classroom.

Literacy

In Literacy, we have loved continuing on with our Writing Revolution lessons. This week our focus has been concrete and abstract nouns. We have loved creating descriptive sentences using all different types of nouns.

During reading we have a focus on 'fluency'. Fluency is important when we are reading because it helps us understand and comprehend our novel. Next week we will start fluency groups to keep building our reading skills.

Maths

During maths we are learning about vertical mathematic sums in addition & subtraction.

For example

  475

 -24

  ———-

   451

We have also started focus maths groups. This means we are split into 3 different groups depending on what we need to focus on.

We have enjoyed our new maths groups and it means it's not too hard but perfect for the students!!

R.E

We would like to send out a huge thank you to Mr Blake for his amazing job with Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. We loved eating lots of yummy pancakes!

RRRR

In Respectful Relationships we are learning about good character traits such as funny, curious, forgiving, fair, honest, kind and many more.

We are currently implementing these into our every day lives by being kind and caring for others, such as helping people out, sharing our belongings and looking after our friends, family and peers.

On Monday the 20th of March we will have a Respectful Relationships lesson from 2:30-3:15 that all parents are welcome to attend.

Colour Run! 🌈✨😋

On Friday, we had an amazing colour run at school! Just before it started, we filled up our water bottles and put sunscreen on. We headed out to the oval with all the other classes and we lined up! The preps went first with their buddies, the grade 5s. Grade ones were next, twos, threes, and finally, 4s! We stepped over to the running track then Mr Blake yelled, GOO! We ran around the running track to the courts, and surprisingly POOF! We got sprayed with pink! I ran through the hurdles knocking over about 3 as I went. Surprise! I ran straight into a cloud of blue!!! Ewww, I got it in my mouth, and it tasted disgusting blahhhhhh. Never mind that, we had to keep running. Flap flap! The next obstacle was running through... pool noodles? okay then.

There’s the Aislin tree! I can finally take a break. Oh no! My water bottle was so dirty ugh I still have to drink. I set it down after a few mouthfuls. Then I ran through a powdery dust cloud full of orange! I desperately ran to get out of the clouds and I hopped through some hoops! Bolted out to get out of the crowded space, and just ran to a even more crowded area! Oh now I know why!! another POOF! Purple clouds this time haha everyone is asking the people to spray it on their heads! Not me though, I need to protect my hair. I sprinted out past the bathrooms to the quiet area. Not so quiet though. I rushed to the last station of green. Oh wow it’s so bright, ahhh it’s all over mee! Next lap time!! Wait at the starting line they were spraying people with water guns! Me next! After a few more laps, it was time! The best time. Sliming the teachers…. Mwhauhwa! Then Mr Blake called everyone over with the microphone and everyone was so excited first was Mr Brown he flicked slime all over everyone bleughhh then so on to all of the teachers. Later, after recess we had free time. Mmmm sausage time!! I also got a bag of chips. Then zap the day was over.
