SCHOOL CAPTAINS NEWS

We are on the road for another fantastic year at Sacred Heart.  The atmosphere has been a buzzing hive of activities. Our first whole school activity was KABOOM which happened in week 3. I’m sure I can speak for the student population, when I say it was AMAZING!!! It was great to be able to mix with students from other year levels for the day and it was great to spend some time with the new preppies in our house. In week 5 we had our swimming carnival. It was great to see our peers stepping up to the plate and having a go. Thanks Mr T for organizing this event for us. We also want to thank Mr Blake for organizing the pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. The Sacred Heart community is very appreciative. While we are thanking Mr Blake, we’d also like to thank him and Pam Moore for their great efforts to make the colour run such a memorable experience. I know this will be an event I’ll never forget and we should all be proud of the incredible fundraising effort we achieved. The Little Hearts playgroup started two weeks ago and the Grade 6’s have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to meet and play with our local preschool children.

Even after such a busy first half of the term we still have a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks. In Week 8, we have our school athletics which is my personal favourite, it's gonna be so much fun! In week 10, the 6’s are off to Canberra for a week-long camp. We will be visiting parliament house, government house, questacon and heaps more. In week 11 we have the  Stations of the Cross which the 5’s and 6’s will be performing the stories from Holy Week and also recontextualizing them to a modern form in today's world.

Our captains have been very busy to kick off 2023. The school captains have been doing class awards every week at assembly and have been coming up with lots of new ideas. One of their creative ideas was a suggestion box which will give a voice to every student within the school. This will begin next Wednesday. We have also been very busy helping out with the other captain roles within the school including teaching R.E to Year 3, 4 and 5s. We will also help out Miss Maloney with her Mindful Colouring Club which is every Thursday at the second half of lunch.

The R.E captains have been the busiest of them all. Every week they have been reading the prayer at assembly, they have been into classrooms running R.E lessons and they have helped Mr Blake organize the pancakes on Shrove Tuesday and have helped prepare the school liturgies. Social Justice also paired up with the R.E team to make pancakes and raise money for breast cancer, they made $691 all together which was a great achievement and the captains also helped out on the colour run day.

The sport captains have been helping Mr Brown organize the school’s sport equipment and have also helped with some class sport lessons.

Our Library captains have assisted classes with borrowing books and have also started their own Reading club which will begin this week.

Our Respectful Relationship and Arts captains have been collaborating to get a “quote tree” art piece up that the whole school will be contributing to. Stay tuned to have these great captains come into our junior classes to assist in this process.

Environmental captains have been working hard to educate the junior school on what rubbish goes in what bin. You can find them everyday after recess at our school bins waiting for classes to bring out their rubbish. Finally, out I.T captains have been very helpful running the slides for the whole school assemblies and helping out with the chrome books when problems arise.

That’s all from us for now, to the weekend and beyond,

Benji, Harrison, Milly and Luisa.
