Energy & Geohazards

Earlier this term, Year 8 students attended KIOSC.  They undertook 3 separate sessions with a focus on Energy and Geohazards.

 

The first session involved students investigating the effect of changing the quantity, shape, size and angle of blades on a wind turbine in an attempt to generate the greatest wattage.

 

The second session used drones to complete a series of tasks.  Students needed to program the drone to perform a series steps, flying to drone over a mountain and landing it on the appropriate site.  Watch the video here:

The final session had students investigating various light sources; LED, incandescent, the sun, fluorescent and how effective these sources were in charging a solar battery.  The car that travelled the furthest on a 2 minute charge was the winner.
