ICCES Basketball Report

On Thursday and Friday last week, The Hamilton and Alexandra College sent away a senior basketball team to represent the school in the ICCES Winter Tournament sporting tournament in Shepparton. The basketball team which consisted of Oscar Hausler, Sam Robinson, Austin Mayfield, George McMullen, Jake Tonissen, Matt Hutchings and Nick Hoskyns played six competitive games over the two days losing only by a couple of points in most games. Although lacking severely in height and age over their competitors, they put up a tough fight and only lost by 1 point to Braemar College in the preliminary round who went on to win the grand final. Our coach was Andrew Hoskyns and was managed by Carla Mayfield and Leigh Alexander. The team would like to thank for them for giving up their time to help. It was a wonderful experience and opportunity.

ICCES Hockey Report

Last Thursday and Friday the ICCES Hockey team travelled to Shepparton to compete in the ICCES Winter Tour. Our team consisted of Year 7-10 students, and we competed against senior teams from Braemar College, Bacchus Marsh Grammar, and Goulburn Valley Grammar School. On Thursday we started the tournament playing Bacchus Marsh Grammar, winning 3-2. Our second game was against Goulbourn Valley Grammar School, who we beat 4-2 in a very fast-paced second half. Braemar College’s team was made up of mostly inexperienced hockey players, we won 10-0, but they were a fun team to play and they later came back to support us in the finals.

On Friday we played Goulbourn in the semi-final with a very close 1-1 draw. This meant we went into a penalty shootout, in which we were lucky and won 3-2 in the 6th sudden death round. Ciaran Nelson scored our winning goal and Emily McNaughton did a magnificent job in goals during an intense shootout. This put us into the final and we eventually played Goulbourn Valley Grammar again to be victorious. The Grand Final was a very fast and highly skilled game, but due to our fresh legs, we were able to dominate the offensive play. Charlie Jarvis scored the first goal and Isaac Shaw scored two, which gave us a 3-0 victory, meaning we remained undefeated for the whole tournament. Thanks to our coach Mr Hawthorne and our team manager Mrs Palmer, as well as Mr Alexander for organising the teams. It was an exciting experience and we are looking forward to competing in the Winter Tour in 2023.
