The Educational Pathways Program is designed to improve educational and career outcomes for students by introducing them to a range of vocational training and employment pathways.
TAFE NSW YES+
TAFE NSW’s Youth Engagement Strategy Plus (YES+) is designed to assist students identify potential career pathways through vocational tasters in a wide range of industries, delivered at a local TAFE NSW campus. As part of the program, students have an opportunity to discuss job roles and qualifications within the industry.
During this term, Year 10 students had an opportunity to attend TAFE NSW’s YES+ courses focused on Real Estate, Hair and Beauty, and Electrical.
Next term, Year 10 students will be attending courses in Automotive, Hair Beauty and Nails, Retail, and Nursing. This will involve students attending TAFE one day per week for 8 weeks.
Hair Beauty and Nails - Students will experience, learn and participate in a simulated hair salon focused upon shampooing, retailing, styling hair, nail services, manicure, nail painting and nail art. Students will learn skin care analysis and apply make up and their own face chart.
Retail - In this program, students will learn about jobs in the retail industry and the skills of Work Health and Safety (WHS), security and customer service, point of sale, visual merchandise displays and marketing. Additionally, they will learn about company logos, slogans and social media in the retail industry and why it is important. There will also be an excursion to Bankstown Central or Parramatta, where students will examine how retailers use visual merchandising and store layouts.
Automotive - Yes+ is a hands-on experience! Students will dismantle and reassemble an engine, work on electrical systems and be able to identify significant operating systems on a modern car.
Nursing - This program will provide students, in a simulated real life nursing environment, with basic skills associated with Nursing. Students will engage in practical activities and learn how to use tools common in hospital environments including lifters, hospital beds, blood pressure machines and blood sugar machines.
This term, Years 8 and 9 have been participating in the ‘Futurepreneurs Ignite’ program. This program engages students with innovative thinking skills and practical lessons regarding how to think and act like an entrepreneur. This online program enables the students to work independently and create ideas that can be transformed into the real world. This program is partnered and sponsored by The Smith Family. We thank them for this opportunity.
The Wellbeing Team is proud to announce that starting in Term 3, every Wednesday (Week B) at Lunch, Mr MacRae and Mr Lewis will be hosting a movie club in room 18. This is an opportunity for students to watch and discuss movies across a variety of genres. This is an open invitation to all keen students. Scene you there!
Merrylands High School and Western Sydney University continue to collaborate through the Homework Centre Program. Aspiring teachers from Western Sydney have dedicated themselves toward supporting and assisting our students. Their contribution towards building students confidence and belief in their ability to succeed has been greatly appreciated by the students.

Be Brave. Make Change is this year's theme for National Reconciliation Week, celebrated with a display of books in the library. These books are a selection from the 671 titles which are available through the Oliver catalog when using the search term ‘Aboriginal’.
For NAIDOC Week coming up, the theme will be Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! Show your support this year by downloading, printing and colouring in the 2022 National NAIDOC Week Poster, Stronger.
