Parliament Prize Success!

During our inquiry into 'How We Organise Ourselves', students were invited to submit an entry to the 2022 Parliament Prize. This competition was entered by 675 students across 145 schools in Victoria who submitted speeches to persuade parliament to take action on an issue they were passionate about.

Due to the high calibre of entries and the effort put in by our students, Saltwater College was awarded the The Alicia Katz award (named after the first woman to run for the Parliament of Victoria). This award recognises a school that has made an inspiring contribution to the Parliament Prize through their strong commitment to a diverse range of issues.

One of Saltwater College's students, Omba Masudi, was also highly commended by the judges. Each and every student should be proud of their efforts, just as we are.

Exhibition

Our students are getting excited as they delve into deep into research for their exhibition within their small groups.

Each group has  designed their own unit of inquiry, with a central idea and lines of inquiry based on their group's shared interests and passions. The groups have also each been assigned and met with a mentor from the school community who is guiding their project along with the Year Six teachers.

Over the next few weeks, the students will be going further in this research to allow them to draw conclusions and begin to take their own actions, which will make a difference.

We know the students cannot wait to share their exhibition with the community in week 10 of this term.

Buddies

Over the year, as leaders, our students have been supporting the younger Prep classes at Saltwater College.

As the Prep students have been working on narratives, Year Six students have been reading stories with them and helping retell through puppetry, drawing and shared writing. The students have not only enjoyed the special bond the develop but our students have grown as leaders by understanding how to help the younger students understand new concepts.
