In the Music Classroom

Our students are constantly exceeding all expectations within the Music classroom.

During the past fortnight, our Year Two and Three students have been exploring rhythmic patterns and pitch.

With the distinctive rhythmic patterns, we have been establishing a rhythmic vocabulary which enables our students to recognise and reproduce patterns just by just reading them on the whiteboard.

We have also introduced the students to the concept of pitch, and being able to recognise the pitch and notes on the treble stave through the use of mnemonic triggers.  These triggers could be the use of an acronym (FACE for the notes in the spaces), or by creating acrostic sentences with the start of each word representing the notes of the lines (Every Good Boy Deserves Fruit).

Being able to recognise notes on the musical stave is imperative to being able to play a musical instrument.  All of our students were able to read the notes (pitch and rhythm) and were able to reproduce a simple song with the use of our Boom Whackers (as seen in the video below).

In the coming weeks, we will give each student more than one Boom Whacker, which will challenge them to not only recognise the notes, but also determine which Boom Whacker to play in sequence.

Victorian State School Spectacular Mass Choir

On Wednesday 17 August, our Victorian State School Spectacular (VSSS) Mass Choir students will join the other Mass Choir students from around the state, to attend their second Mass Choir rehearsals at the Melbourne Town Hall.

Our students have worked so hard with preparing the songs that have been set for them, and it was fitting that they were each given a rehearsal polo shirt so that they could stand out at the rehearsals.  I'm sure they will make us all very proud.

Not long until the performance at John Cain Arena on 10 September.
