Intermediate Netball collective

State Swimming

Earlier this term Miles Parfitt competed in the State Swimming Championships at MSAC, he was our only team member to qualify. Miles came 7th in his event the 50 metres Breaststroke and was only a few seconds off the overall winner.  Only in year 8, this is the second year that Miles has qualified and competed for NHS at State Level.  Keep an eye on Miles, I think we will be seeing a lot more action in the pool from him in years to come.  Well done Miles, we are so proud of you. We would also like to say a big Thank you to Miles’s family for taking Miles to the state event and supporting him when we couldn’t be there to cheer him on.

Intermediate Division Netball

On a pupil free day, the 9/10s ventured through stormy conditions out to Reservoir High, to compete in the intermediate division netball. The day started slowly with the A team girls going down by one goal to a determined Thornbury team. Whilst the boys also struggled with their first matches. As the day progressed the B team girls had some impressive comebacks across their rounds, to close some significant gaps, and the A team girls went on to win the remainder of their games. The boys team showed determination throughout the day, as the played games across both the A and B divisions, at times playing multiple games in a row. Coaches Millie, Iris, Bella and Xalia were proud and impressed with all players efforts across the the day, and a special to shout out to Mr Bartholomew and Ms Dridan for their support and help throughout the day! Although the teams played their best netball, sadly none of them made it to regionals.

Iris Bentley Yr 12

We would like to thank Iris and of our other students coaches, Millie Collodetti, Bella Stafford and Xalia Sheehan for the huge amount of time and commitment that they put into our Netball Program. From the many morning and lunchtime training sessions, team selection and coaching on the day of competition. It makes our jobs a whole lot easier having dedicated students who are willing to help us out in such a large capacity.

Year 7/8 Girls Football

On June 6 our Yr7/8 Girls Football team competed in the Divisional competition.  Our girls only had 1 match against Preston High School, with tough, windy conditions our girls fought hard but Preston were the overall winners on the day.

Thank you to Mr Melican for coaching and our student coaches Pippi Aucar, Zoe Hargreaves, Grace Pearson, Pheobe Hargreaves and Jada Stapleton who assisted in coaching, boundary and goal umpiring and running team messages to players.

Division Cross Country

On a cold, wet and windy day last week, our Cross Country Team competed in the Division Cross Country at Bundoora Park. Congratulations to all of our competitors who represented our school in very tough conditions, unfortunately it was too cold and wet to even get a team pic. 20 of our students have now qualified to compete in the Regional Cross Country which is again being held at Bundoora Park this Wednesday June 15, hopefully the weather will be a bit nicer for those competing and also for those of us who will be spectating.  Good luck Team.

Year 8 Boys Football

On Thursday June 9, our Yr 8 Boys Football team travelled to CT Barling Reserve to compete in the Darebin Divisional Competition. Early in our first match we lost a player due to injury which meant we were down to 17 players for the rest of the day which made it difficult. Scores were 19 to 8 at half time but Preston HS then kicked away to win by 5 goals. We fared better in the second game against Thornbury. With a similar half time score, however we fought back to lose 25 to 34. Well done to Fred Burton, Will Macleod and Spencer Kinsey for stepping up with a player down, trying hard valiantly all day. Thank you to all 18 players who participated on the day

Year 8 Girls Division Netball

After being thrown cold into their first game we struggled with our passing and shooting losing 3-8 to Thornbury.  5 of our 8 players hadn’t played Netball before but were keen to learn. After our Year 10 coaches Will Thyer and Hugo Miller ran drills and taught students how not to step in our second round bye we came out firing beating Lalor 13-0. We improved as the day progressed beating William Ruthven 18-1. In a hard fought game with Preston we eventually won 6-4 and finished the day beating Reservoir 16-2. We may have done better against Thornbury if we played them later in the day. A great educational day for our developing team.
