NAIDOC Week at Numurkah Primary School

 

Last week was NAIDOC week. NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) week occurs annually in July.

All the classes did something to celebrate the history and culture of Indigenous people. We interviewed a few people from each class to ask what they did during NAIDOC week.

 

P/1W:

Sadie – “We coloured a poster that said GET UP, STAND UP, SHOW UP. My favourite bit was spending time with my buddy Sienna.”

Tobi – “My favourite bit was colouring in the “T” on my sheet.”

Jhye – “My favourite bit of the buddy session was the whole buddy session!”

 

1/2B:

Miss B- “We did a colouring on the NAIDOC week theme.”

 

1/2N:

Hunter – “In Art we had to draw the indigenous flags a colour them in”  

Olivia – “In Buddies we made our own special NAIDOC hats, in music we sang lots of songs one of them was a song about a goanna.”

 

2/3R:

Blake – “In Buddies we coloured in a poster for NAIDOC week saying GET UP, STAND UP, SHOW UP. My favourite part of this activity was colouring my part in with my buddy.”

Annie – “I was only here on Friday, but I sang a song with the choir at assembly. 

 

3/4W:

Harper – “We did NAIDOC colouring pages and made a bookmark.”

Jake – “We made a crown for NAIDOC week and designed a bookmark.”

 

4/5S:

Indy – “For buddies we did a poster, and in Art we researched indigenous artists.”

Tyler – “In Music, we played a game called kai. It is where you must keep the ball up in the air and it can’t touch the ground. In class, we did a biography about famous indigenous people.”

 

5/6H:

Wyleigh – “In Buddies, we coloured in different parts of a big poster. We then stuck all the pieces of paper together, and it made a big poster that said GET UP, STAND UP, SHOW UP.”

 

Tamika – “In class, we did a biography of a famous indigenous person. I did Nova Peris. Nova was known for her hockey skills and went to the Olympics representing the aboriginal flag. Nova was a politician she is now retired.”

 

5/6S:

Holly – “We made a hand to go around the poster that we made about an indigenous theme.”

Will – “Our class went on a website, and we wrote about what we read about NAIDOC week. In Art we researched famous indigenous artists.”
