Italian Trip to Fremantle

On Wednesday, students studying Italian in Years 10-12 headed off to Fremantle accompanied by Ms Knapman and Ms Ierace. Everyone had lunch in a small trattoria called Parlapa where all the staff spoke Italian, where students had the chance to practice their Italian in a real world setting wile enjoying some delicious Italian food. The staff were impressed with their Italian and complimented the teachers on how well-behaved the students were.

Lunch was followed by a walk to the Cappuccino Strip where we looked at the obvious Italian influence and enjoyed some gelato. We then headed to the Naval Store to see the Sistine Chapel exhibition where we learned a lot about both Michelangelo and his masterpiece in the Sistine Chapel. What was particularly interesting was in the section called ‘The Last Judgement’ where Michelangelo painted his own face on the representation of Saint Sebastian and also gave Minos, guardian of the underworld, the face of Biagio da Cesena who was one of his most vocal critics at the Vatican.

3, 2, 1... Launch!

The Year 10 Astronomy students got to launch their own hand made rockets this week!

Year 10 Outdoor Ed Camp

52 Year 10 students travelled to Karridale in Week 9 for their Outdoor Education Camp. The boys camped in different locations along the Cape to Cape track, braving a bit of rain and wind. Activities included abseiling into Brides Cave, hiking, and a high ropes course.

Although the students will admit that both their mental and physical resilience was challenged, they are better for the experience. Thank you to all Trinity College and Outdoor Education Group staff for organising such a memorable experience!

Prefect Perspectives

Trinity College never fails to deliver, Week 9 saw many students confront new frontiers and embracing the washing machine that is life at Trinity College.

Now all exams have been completed, I congratulate all students from Year 8-12 on their endeavours over the past four weeks.

Thursday night saw the annual ballroom dancing social between Year 9 students from Trinity and Mercedes College. Students arrived at the Sport Centre for a night of dancing. While palms where sweaty and knees were weak on arrival, the students gained confidence as the night progressed and danced the night away. Rumour has it that Year 9 Head of Year Mr Allen was best on ground on the dance floor! On a serious note, the ballroom dancing program embodies a tradition that has existed between the two Colleges for decades and presents the boys an opportunity to step outside their comfort zones and learn some important life skills, while forming some meaningful relationships with Mercedes students.

Thursday also saw an opportunity for the Year 12 Aviation students to go on an excursion to Jandakot Airport which allowed them to hear from organisations such as Goldfields Air Services and also tour the facilities at the airport. Trinity College is one of the few schools in Western Australia to offer Aviation ATAR, an exciting course which allows students to gain knowledge about aviation while also having the opportunity to gain practical flying experience in the College’s state of the art flight simulator. All done under the guidance of one the State’s premier educators Mr Chan.

This weekend presents a fixture against Guilford Grammar as the first teams look to emulate the clean sweep that was achieved against the School the last time that the two schools met earlier in the year. The boy’s face a hefty trip into the country to face Guilford on their home turf.  More broadly the fixture presents the final fixture for Term 2 and given that there are only four fixtures in Term 3 it marks the beginning of the end of PSA sport for my fellow Year 12s. So, I encourage everyone to savour the pulling on the blue and green on these final occasions.

I hope that all students push forward through this last week to a restful holiday break.

May God Bless Our College Community,
