Principal's Message
Mrs Josie Crisara
After what was hopefully a restful break, school has ramped up in terms of activities for students. The College Musical cast and crew have been busy rehearsing what is a great version of the musical 'Shrek'. I encourage all families to support this show; it is lots of fun and can even inspire future performers and crew. Students learn so many skills by being a part of a wonderful experience. A number of sports events are in train with SSV competition and athletics. Book of the Year activities are coming up with students currently busy reading the short-listed books. Student participation in these events are important for developing confidence and broadening their outlook.
Major Roads Projects Victoria will be commencing works near the College entrance and I encourage patience as these works are completed. Disruption should be minimal. The Major Roads Projects team is currently working with students and staff on a number of initiatives including seedling preparation for the future landscaping on Mickleham Road, design of decal artworks for infrastructure and production of bench seats. They will be presenting a session to Brookhill students on careers in the construction industry which are very broad: engineering, OHS, HR, landscaping, environmental care, project management and communications, for example.
The Parents and Friends Association is busily planning events with the Fathers Day breakfast and stall on Thursday 31 August. Please put the date in your diary and volunteer to help if you can. The Parents and Friends are thanked for assisting with providing the musical cast and crew with lunch at their rehearsal in the holidays and last weekend.

NAIDOC Week
This year, in NAIDOC week the theme was 'For Our Elders'. Across every generation, Elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in Australian communities and families. The Elders hold the stories that make up the oldest living culture in the world. It is these stories passed down through the generations that keeps the memories and leanings alive and valued. Perhaps in your family you could share the living history of migration by passing down information of past generations. It makes for a great discussion over a meal and provides connection to your cultural heritage. Your children will be fascinated to hear stories of grandparents, great grandparents and beyond.
