Literacy 

In Reading, we will: 

• Make connections to ourselves, our own experiences and human traits and problems that are shared among people of many different cultures 
• Use a variety of mentor texts to analyse and explain how the text structure, language features, images and vocabulary are used to engage the audience and clearly communicate the author’s message.
• Read, summarise and analyse texts with complex figurative and connotative language (symbolism, metaphors, similes, hyperboles etc.) 

In Writing, we will: 

• Re-read our writing to identify parts that can be enhanced and apply sophisticated writing techniques used in mentor texts 
• Re-read our writer’s  notebooks regularly to identify entries they might possibly work on for publication
• Take pride in the content and presentation of their writer’s notebook and pieces that are to be published
